Dear Prillerman Family,
I know I’m *really* late in doing this, but somehow I missed Byrd’s passing altogether, and for that, I’m deeply sorry.
Byrd and I worked together with Music on the Hill and various projects out of the old No. 17 Fire House. Somehow, without knowing his amazing history, it immediately felt like I’d always known him; like he’d somehow informed everything in the world. Every time I see a sign for a fish fry, I silently acknowledge that there will never be a fish fry event like Byrd’s. For someone so far along in his years, he had the most youthful spirit coupled with the wisdom of time and experience.
When Earl Potts told me that Byrd passed, my soul hurt for a bit. He had come to mean so much to many of us on the Hilltop, and I hate to think of life without knowing he’s somewhere making the world better. Then I realized that a spirit like his can never go away. He will always live on, in his beautiful family, in his efforts to make our community better, in the ways he watches over all those he mentored.
Thank you so much for sharing him with those of us who weren’t privileged enough to be related to him. What a giant gift it has been to know such a great man. I will always cherish our Music on the Hill events and Byrd’s kindness, friendship, and wisdom.
Much love to you and yours,
Jennie
