Catherine Crandell, 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Monday February 23, 2009 at Wexner Heritage Village. Born to Burrell and Sallie Scotten on November 25 1929. Catherine was preceded in death by her parents.

Catherine was a retired educator and principal with Columbus City Schools with 39 years of service. She was a devoted lifetime member of First AME Zion Church. She was passionate about singing and directing the church choir. Catherine was a devoted member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, The National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc and TWIG 110 of Nationwide Childrens Hospital. She was a graduate of The Ohio State University and earned a masters degree from Xavier University

Catherine is survived by her loving cousins and caregivers, Jacqueline (Henry) Sherrod, cousins Renee (Alex) Shumate, Rodney (Nia) McBride, Kerry McBride all of Columbus Ohio, Elizabeth Gant of New York, NY, Mary Johnson of Concord, NC, Keith (Carol) McBride of Ellerbe, NC, Kim Johnson, John Johnson, Darnell McBride of Charlotte, NC and numerous cousins in Jacksonville, FL. Catherine will also be missed by her lifetime best friends and special sisters, Hazel C. Kerr of Columbus, OH and Cecelia Kerr of Los Angeles, CA.

A special thank you to her nurses Ann and Willie Mae at Wexner Heritage who lovingly cared for Catherine in her final days. Catherine was a brave, caring person who loved the Lord and her family.

She was very dear to our parents Annie Ruth and James Lash when we lived in Ohio. We all attended Caldwell Temple until moving to Colorado in 1964.

  2. Mrs. Crandell touched many lives and she will be missed by so many. I will truly miss her yearly Christmas card to my family. My prayers go out to her family and to the many friends she had. I will miss her.
