Deacon John D. Combs, Sr., was surrounded by his children when the Lord called him Home on August 6, 2015 at Grant Medical Center. He was born in Homer, LA to the late Jimmie and Selma Scott Combs, Sr. on September 6, 1945. Deacon Combs graduated from Central Consolidated High School in Dubberly, LA and served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He was formerly employed at Baptist Bookstore, Lazarus Bakery, and St. Albins Episcopal Church and retired from Krogers Bakery after working over 20 years of service. John was a member of Bakers Local 59 and Ebenezer Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Deacons Board, Trustee, Sunday School Superintendent, Male & Mass Choir Member and Prayer Band Member. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Leodis, Willie, Charlie and Drew and sister Mary. Left to cherish his memory, daughter Alesia L. Combs; sons John (DeShon) Combs, Jr., John R. Combs and Josh C. Combs; brothers, Jimmie (Evelyn) Combs, Jr., Lonnie Combs, and LeRoy (Brenda) Combs; sisters, Louise Bennett and Lovadell (Jerry) Moore; grandchildren, Jaida, John III, Roman and Emani; special family Helen L. Combs-Dulaney, Crystal Combs, Mrs. Rosa and Ms. Ann and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends. Visitation 11:00am and Home Going Service 12:00 noon Thursday August 13, 2015 at Ebenezer Baptist Church 4500 Refugee Rd. Interment at Franklin Hills Memory Gardens.
