ERICK DEVON CARMICHAEL was born on May 6, 1964, to Albert Leroy Carmichael and Rosanne Brown Carmichael in Columbus, Ohio. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized at Tabernacle Baptist Church in November 1975. He was a member of the Church School and a former Trustee. Erick was a proud alumni of the Columbus City Schools where he graduated from Northland High School in 1982. In 1986, Erick earned his B.A. degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania.

After college, Erick was hired as the senior vice president for Pryor, McClendon, Counts, & Co. investment firm, where he worked for fifteen years. Erick later founded or co-founded several firms that specialize in training, marketing, investments and real estate development. He co-founded New Millennium, Inc. (NMI) in 1995, a strategic consultative and marketing company. In 2004, Erick co-founded the Gideon Development Partners, LLC (GDP), an independent real estate development firm. Both NMI and GDP have been active in the rebuilding of Central Ohio’s urban communities. The GDP group acquired the Gateway Building in Columbus, Ohio’s landmark King Lincoln District. NMI has acquired dozens of properties in Columbus’ central city, making improvements, upgrades and renovations for prospective first-time homebuyers.

In addition to his entrepreneurial and community development ventures, Erick served as a principal for Greentree Brokerage, a full service investment company, from 2000 to 2005. A year later, Erick was hired as senior vice president for Pacific American Securities.

Erick worked for more than twenty-five years in the investment banking and securities industry. During this time, he served clients throughout the United States, Caribbean, and in countries in Africa and Western Europe. These clients have included corporations, governmental entities, and institutional investors. In total, he assisted various entities in raising nearly $20 billion of capital. These funds were utilized to finance projects such as airports, highways, housing water and wastewater projects, stadiums, and convention centers.

He also served as treasurer and trustee for the Greater Columbus Arts Council and the Columbus Urban Growth Corporation. He is the former Director of Columbus Housing Partnership, Community Shelter Board, and Neighborhood House.

Erick expired this life, suddenly, on Sunday, August 5, 2012. He is predeceased by his father, Albert Leroy Carmichael; grandmothers, Emma Mason and Catherine Miller; and grandfathers, James Mason and Robert Brown.

He will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Rosanne Brown; brother, Albert “Chip” (Vera) Carmichael; sister, Teresa Harris-Perdue; aunts, Jackie Griffin and Bessie Wofford; uncles, Robert Brown, Kevin Miller, and Rodney Gillenwater; niece, Elisha Carmichael; and a host of cousins, relatives, and friends.
