Helen McDowell was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend who went home to be with the Lord on December 7, 2016 at the age of 88 years old. She was born in Griffin, Georgia on February 27, 1928 to the late Clifford Patrick, Sr. and Anna Mae (Robert) Ison.

Helen moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1953 and began work as a child care provider. She later became employed for Columbus City Schools where she continued her love of working with children and was also a Booster Club parent for the Mohawk Marching Band.

She was a member of the Central Community House and Licking County Senior Programs where she enjoyed social events such as: attending movies, dinner outings, proms, trips, games and holiday festivities. Her favorite games to play with friends were corn hole and dominoes.

Helen’s favorite movies were Fried Green Tomatoes, Home Alone (Lost in New York) and all Tyler Perry productions. Her evening routine consisted of watching the 10 tv 6 o’clock evening news, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She never missed World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) nor OSU Buckeye Football. Each Saturday she looked forward to dressing up in her Buckeye gear to watch the games.

She accepted Christ at an early age and has been a dedicated member of Greater Ebenezer Cathedral of Praise for 51 years. Helen was affectionately known as Mother McDowell and Sister Mac. Over the years she served as the president of the Missionary Department and Pastor’s Aide Committee, Sunday School Secretary, and member of the Jubilee Choir. She loved her pastor and church family dearly.

Helen was proceeded in death by her loving parents Clifford Patrick, Sr. and Anna Mae (Robert) Ison; brothers, Clifford Patrick II and Emma Walton. She leaves to cherish her memories 4 daughters, Shirley A. Aekins, Charlene Jackson, Madalyn J. Hairston, and Michelle (Kenny) Reynolds; siblings Bonnie Harper, Ernestine(Gene) Robinson, Rev Harry and Ina Patrick, Willie Patrick, Clifford( Angela) Patrick and Deborah Patrick(Eric) Hickerson; grandchildren, Tamika (Daryll) Scott, Jo Edna McDowell, Kyle Sims, Brandon Aekins, Kenneth (Jasmine) Reynolds, Terrell Hairston; 11 great grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; guardian angels, Nona Hollingsworth, Phyllis Smith, and Rubye D. Mayle; The Palmer family and a host of other family members and friends.

Special thanks to Bishop William C. Reynolds and The Greater Ebenezer family, Able Support Services (Mona, Chuck, Regina, Adjuwa, Cynthia, Juanita, and Christina), Speech Therapist, Mary Dickson, VPA (Dr. Robin Newburn), OSU and Mount Carmel East Hospitals, and Wexner Heritage Village.

Visitation 6pm and Home Going Service 7pm, Tuesday December 13, 2016 at Greater Ebenezer Cathedral of Praise 2645 Fairwood Ave.  Eulogist, Bishop William C. Reyonlds.  Interment 10am Wednesday December 14, 2016 at Greenlawn Cemetery.

Sis Mcdowell, a huge General in the kingdom of God, has completed her assignment. I will miss all the good times at Ebernezer Apostolic church and now G.E.A F.C….Sis Mcdowell singing her songs and having a awesome time praising and worshipping God. She will be greatly missed.
