James Willis Newton Jr was born on January 23rd 1955 to Lorna Jean Darnell and James Willis Newton Sr in OSU Hospital. He attended Highland Elementary school when he lived in Columbus, Ohio. He moved to Brooklyn, New York when he was ten years old. As a teenager he joined a local singing group that gained a lot of popularity, especially from the young ladies. When he was sixteen years old he spent the next four years working at the Navy Yard. While in New York he also worked at M&D Liquor Store for two years. He was the oldest of ten kids and helped raised his nine siblings on top of his girlfriend Louise Davis’s 8 children. He was a hustler; he was always extending a hand and helping people whenever he could. He used to take us kids to the movies and to the handball court every chance he could just to spend time with them. Some joked about his heroic efforts when he once saved people from a burning building. Like anyone else, he went through his trials and tribulations. He came back to Columbus, Ohio in 1986.Once back he kept himself busy with dozens of different jobs throughout his years, he worked at Mr. Shannon’s store on 22nd and Hamilton Ave for 1 ½ years. He worked at the car auction for 5 years. He took care of his girlfriend Cheryl’s grandfather Horace for a couple of years. He worked at Rosemont Reformatory School for girls. James was all in all a very good guy and loved by all whom came in contact with him. He loved to drink his boiler makers; he loved his beer and cigarettes and shooting the breeze on the porch with his friends playing poker. Known to some as Jimmy or JW and JW the Pimp and Dark skinned Eskimo or whatever you would call him, he left a lasting impression in everyone’s heart.
