Lakisha Palmer

Lakisha Denise (Alexander) Palmer blessed the world with her presence on July 4, 1974 at St. Ann’s Hospital – gifted to Barbara and Charles Alexander. They knew at first sight that Lakisha, also known as Kisha, was going to be their beautiful, feisty child who would not take “no” for an answer.

Lakisha, a very vibrant spirit, had an energy that filled the room! Anyone who encountered Lakisha can contest to the fact that she was, indeed, the life of the party. Those who knew Lakisha instantly connected with her and gravitated toward her. Her upbeat personality and witty nature always kept her family and friends laughing.

Lakisha resided in Columbus, Ohio throughout the majority of her life.  She attended Scottwood Elementary School and Olde Orchard Elementary School.  From there, Kisha attended St. Augustine Catholic School and St. Thomas Catholic School.  It was around this time that Kisha’s love of reading, writing and dancing began to develop and advance. In high school, Lakisha, then known as “Kay”,and her crew took over the halls of Columbus Alternative High School, from where she graduated in 1992.Lakisha then went on to attend Ohio Dominican University, from where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in English Education. Becoming an educator was one of her proudest accomplishments!

During “Kay’s” high school years, she met the love of her life, Roger Lee Palmer. Lakisha and Roger welcomed their first child, Brooklynn Dih’ore, in 1993. The long-time couple later welcomed another daughter, Carringtan Blake, into their family in 1997. On July 17, 2004, Lakisha and Roger tied the knot with her grandmother officiating their ceremony.

On April 6, 2017 at the young age of 42, the Lord called Lakisha Denise Palmer home from the Mount Carmel East Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Lakisha was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Leota Barrett; paternal grandmother, Florence White; paternal grandfather, Charlie Brown; and niece, LeShauna Walker.  Kisha leaves to cherish her memory: her loving husband, Roger Palmer; her daughters, Brooklynn and Carringtan; her mother, Barbara Alexander; her father, Charles (Sandra) Alexander; her sisters, Michelle Barnett, Jemele Alexander, and Kimani (Randy) Haley; her brother, Tehron Maye; her nieces Jaiilyn, Khadijah, Briah and Khari; her nephews, Kyilan and Randy, Jr., and a host of many more family members and friends, near and far.

Lakisha Denise will always be remembered for her eccentricity and vivacity!  She will undeniably and undoubtedly be missed by all who knew her, including her former students and colleagues (at Fair Avenue, Clinton Middle School and Columbus Africentric Early College), her friends and especially her family.  Her beautiful smile will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her!

On April 6, 2017 at Mount Carmel East Hospital at the young age of 42, Kisha was called home.  She and her beautiful smile will be missed physically but will forever remain in the heart of those whom loved her.
