Michael Todd Houston was born September 12, 1955, son of Lyle Anthony Houston and Ruth Juanita Cooper Houston in Newton, Massachusetts. His father was stationed there n the U.S. Army. Michael is survived by his older sister, Terry Lyn and a younger brother Lyle Jr. His maternal grandparents were Dr. and Mrs. Wellington Watson Cooper. His paternal grandparents resided in Rock Island, Illinois.
Michael grew up traveling around the world wherever his father was stationed, including Massachusetts, Texas, Germany and Pittsburgh. Michaels family settled in Columbus, Ruth’s hometown, when Colonel Houston retired. This was where his grandfather, Dr. Cooper had been serving the community for decades.
Michael was curious, adventurous, and considerate. He was always the thoughtful child, obsessed with cars, electronics, and the latest gadgets. In high school, Michael worked tirelessly in the AV department on theatrical productions and school assemblies.
Michael was always very ethical and believed in justice and fair play. He stood up for people and reached out to help others. He was big brother to many in this community.
He worked for the Ohio Sheriff’s Department, Juvenile Corrections, Eastside Ambulance Service and security companies. Michael was passionate about law and order.
He was always interested in fixing, building and decoration. Michael could do painting, wiring, lighting, acoustics and more. He tore down walls and helped make homes, offices and churches look beautiful.
Michael made many friends by giving and caring. He was an active church member, singing in the choir, helping with events and productions and contributing to community activities.
He will be remembered for his laugh and his smile. Michael could talk (and talk), tell stories and get others to smile too.
Michael will be missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him and the pleasure of loving him.

Condolence from Rose Fitzgerald (Hess) on November 30th, -0001 12:00 am

To the family. I was so sorry to hear about Michael. I have known him for a long time. We sang in the choir at Oakey. Michael, Gerard, Patricia, and I would meet at some restaurant to eat crab legs. Michael would tell funny stories about his job. We would sit there and laugh. We were usually the last people to leave. I will miss my friend. My heart hurts but I know he is no longer suffering. I'll see you later Michael. My prayers are with the family. God Bless
