Robert Patterson was born to Gertrude Patterson and Ozzie Shorter on July 3, 1950. His mother passed soon after his birth. He departed this life on November 14, 2012. He was preceded in death by parents and three siblings: Gertrude Patterson, Ozzie Shorter, Nola Marshall, Nora McDaniel, Maple Wallace, and Glenn Spann.
Robert accepted Christ at an early age. Robert was a Christian and a loyal friend. Robert moved to Columbus, Ohio with his mom, Nola Marshall in 1963. Feeling a sense of loneliness for the family left behind in Louisiana, Robert returned to live with his sister Nora and her husband Willie McDaniel. Robert graduated from G. W. Griffin High School in Lake Providence, Louisiana in 1968.
Robert loved people. In 1980 he met Gloria Burke and her two daughters Jomala at the age of 4 years old and Janee 6 months old. He raised them and their grandchildren DaZhane (Miss Pookie), Janayzha, Mikayla and Jade. There was something special about Robert that made everyone feel welcome.
Robert was a very meticulous person who loved fashion and the Dallas Cowboys. He was gifted with his hands and held numerous jobs over the years. He began his work career as a young man shining shoes on the street. At the age of 18 he started working at Lazarus and from there he worked at Smith’s Transfer Co. and Buckeye Steel until the both companies closed. He ended his work career at Columbus Casting and retired July, 2012.
