Elder William Ross Sr., age 83, beloved Husband, Father, and Brother, was called to his eternal resting place on July 31, 2017. He entered this world on October 26, 1933 in Jeddo, OH, born to Leonard and Mattie Ross.
He attended Steubenville City Schools, and was a 1952 graduate of Steubenville Big Red, where he was a legend in the sport of basketball. He attended Oregon State College, and then served in the U.S. Army. He was employed by Ohio Edison for 25 years where he retired in 1992. He married the love of his life, Loralei Herndon in 1957. To this union was born 4 children.
He was ordained by the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, and served as Pastor for New Hope Fellowship in Steubenville, Ohio. After his retirement from New Hope he relocated to Columbus Ohio and became an associate minister at Grace Apostolic Church where Bishop James W. Gaiters is Pastor.
He was an avid fisherman and loved to go fishing with his sons. Anyone that knew him loved him and his infectious smile, as he was a loving father-figure to many.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 yrs, Loralei Ross; sons, William “Billy” Ross Jr, Keith (Leonette) Murray, John (Sharon) Ross, and Michael (Joyette) Ross; daughters, Terra (William) Ross-Manns and Maude Bougard, extended sons, Brian (Kim) Porter and LT (Valerie) Battle; brother, James (Darlene) Ross; sister, Alice Gilbert; 26 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 6 foster children, numerous extended children, grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation 11:00am, Funeral 12:00pm Wednesday August 9, 2017 at Grace Apostolic Church, 1743 E Lakeview Ave, with Bishop James W. Gaiters officiating.

My sincere condolences to the family. I’m lost for words. Elder Ross will definitely be missed. My fondest memories of him is when he would meet me at the church and pray with me ALL the time . I shall NEVER forget. I hold them very close to my heart. Praying for you all that God will comfort you in your time of sorrow ❤️

Thinking of you, Terra, and your entire family. I remember how deeply your father is loved and respected. You have been a wonderful daughter. You earned your rest, Mr. Ross, in that most special of all places that we all yearn for in our Lord’s presence.

I know Mr. & Mrs. Ross and their sons from our small Steubenville music community. The Ross’s would bring Michael, John and Billy to my house to rehearsal every week. We actually did some performances with success. It was a job chasing those boys around making sure they were they were supposed to be. The dedication of Mr. & Mrs. Ross was incredible to witness. My how time flys! We will always remember the good times. My deepest condolences to the entire Ross family. Hold to Gods unchanging hand.

Throughout these difficult period of times, I would like to extend my deepest heartfelt condolences to the legacy of my beloved uncle, William Ross, Sr. There are no words to express such loss.
I pray that God grants the family strength, peace and comfort now and in the days ahead. May the family bond of love and unity he instilled within us be carried on forever.
I am honored and blessed to have known uncle William. Despite the loss of his physical presence, I know he is watching over us as our lives continue. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

My sincere condolences to the Ross Family. I attended Steubenville Big Red High School with Bill and attended most of the basket ball games in which he played, as he himself was such an outstanding player. I even went to the finals in Columbus in 1952, but did miss the last game as I had to go back to work at a part-time job. I know Bill played his heart out in every game and I doubt that anyone else could have matched his natural athletic abilities. Bill and his wife attended one of the many 1952 class reunions and I did at least get to talk to him briefly, and he expressed how happy he was with the life he had chosen. It is heart-warming to learn of all the good he has accomplished in his life, and his special ability to comfort and lead so many others in his life. I am certain every single person in the family and circle of friends have many wonderful memories of Bill that will comfort you in the days ahead, as well as knowing he is now with our Lord.
