Elder Leroy Leon White Sr.

Elder Leroy Leon White, Sr. was born on October 27, 1932 to the late John Richard and Sallie Beatrice White. He is a Columbus native and completed his education in the Columbus Public School System. After completing his education, Leroy enlisted and served in the Army Branch of the military. Upon his release Leroy returned to Columbus, Ohio and started working for Copco Papers in 1963. He worked there for 30 plus years until its closing. He then worked for Franklin County MRDD until his retirement.
Elder Leroy White was involved in various aspects of ministry. In 1977 he pastored the Apostolic Faith Mission Church while living in Zanesville, Ohio. Upon re-locating Columbus, Ohio in 1983 he served at the Greater Emmanuel Church of the where the senior pastor was the late Bishop Booker T. Jones, Jr., Bishop C.M. Grant (pastor emeritus). While there and in fellowship with the Greater Emmanuel Apostolic Faith Tabernacles, Elder White served as the National Sunday School Superintendent, and as General Field Elder. After serving faithfully under Bishop Booker T. Jones, Jr., Elder Leroy White joined the Beth Messiah Congregation, where he served under Rabbi Howard Silverman.
While there Elder Leroy White served in various capacities including the brotherhood fellowship and teaching Greek and Hebrew classes. He also participated with the liturgical dance group.
Elder Leroy White married the former Ruth Ann Tabler, they were married for 42 years. Leroy loved teaching and spreading the gospel and was an advent book reader. Leroy enjoyed traveling and golf.
Leroy is preceded in death by his loving wife the former Ruth Ann Tabler, his daughter Debra Sanders, his son Leroy White, Jr. and his parents.
Leroy leaves to cherish his loving memory his son, Bishop Stephen L. White of Riverside, Ca, daughter in law Loretta M. Shouse, special daughter Amber Miilan White of Riverside, Ca his brothers Dr. Bill Newman, Mr. Ron White, Mr. Jerome White, his sisters Mary Jane Williams and Mildred Woody all of Columbus, Ohio. His brother in law Mr. Carl Tabler of Cutler, Oh, Mrs. Lois Mayle of Pennsville, Oh and special niece Ms. Trudy Mayle of Pennsville, Oh.
Public Viewing 10:00 AM – 11;00 AM ; Private Visitation 11:00 AM and Funeral 12:00 PM Monday, October 5, 2020 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave.
Masks and Social Distancing are required.
Interment at Mifflin Township Cemetery.

I met Leroy over 10 years ago when he drove the bus that carried my special needs preschool students to school. I have warm memories of our conversations of his life. “Mr Leroy” was always kind, loving and patient with the often times difficult students.
I am sorry for your loss. I am glad he is at peace and joy with Our Savior and his family.
May The Peace Of God That Surpasses All Understanding Comfort The White Family During Their Hours Of Bereavement And The Days Ahead. Elder Leroy White Legacy Will Live On.

Please accept our condolences on the passing of Brother Leroy. He was always kind and we were blessed to experience fellowship with him. May the LORD bless you with the peace that passes all knowledge and understanding in Messiah Yeshua in the days ahead.
My Condolences to the Steve and family. Elder White was a neighbor of mine for a number of years. Always peaceful and respectful. May he rest in peace. He completed his assignment here on earth so God needed him in Heaven. May God Bless and know that he is with the Father.

In Memoriam: My Best Friend, Leroy White

He was a battle-scarred man, who became my best friend
He stuck closer than a brother, from the first day to the end
When I learned his hard life’s story, I just couldn’t keep my calm
Thus our friendship would in part, unto him become a balm
From a child I had rejected, the supremacy of ‘white’
So our love did conquer hate, and rose above the ‘racist’ plight
I shall forever cherish the night we saw, From Swastika to Jim Crow
With Stephen and Lisa standing by our side, we wanted to let the whole world know
We loved to lean upon the Lord, like in Isaiah twenty-six three
But we were also quick to sing, Bill Withers’ classic Lean on Me
We loved to know the LORD in prayer, so we could live above the scurry
We also sang just call my name, and I’ll be there in a true hurry
We loved to study the word in depth, not some minor part the eighth
He even had me walk him through, Teresa Morgan’s tome on faith
We sometimes studied at Upper Cup, he had two cronuts and one tea
But his only real request each time, was exegete the Word for me
He took quite literally the KJV, “study to shew thyself approved”
No matter where we were within the Scriptures, he was always deeply moved
As my roommate on a tour of Israel, he woke me up in the wee hours
Fully geared and ready to go, his watch was off by several hours
On my 60th he spent the day with me, as we reviewed the whole of life
Eating 2.5 pounds of corned beef each, that didn’t even need a knife
Upon getting the news that he had died, I sobbed that I had lost a wondrous gem
But I had told him I’d meet him at Isaiah’s table, for wine in the New Jerusalem
As a new creation in Messiah, yet a Motown man who will not falter
I always said goodbye to him with these lines, that weren’t exactly in the Psalter
‘Cause baby there ain’t no mountain high enough
Ain’t no valley low enough
Ain’t no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you babe
See you in the New Jerusalem dearest friend Leroy White
