Ernestine Granderson Owens

Ernestine Battle Granderson Owens was born on June 1, 1936, in Columbus, OH to Veada Flint Battle and William Battle. She had two sisters, Mary Lyle and Barbara Covington. She married Huey P. Granderson in 1952 to 1973 and to this union four children were born, Huey William, Gail C., Tony P. and Michael R. Granderson.

Ernestine was baptized at an early age at Love Zion Baptist Church under Rev MB Meyers. She served as the First Female Trustee under Dr. William McKissick. She was also a member of the Usher Board, a Nurse, sung in the Choir and attended Sunday School until her health declined. In 1988 Ernestine retired as Environmental Services Manager at The Ohio State University after 25 years of service. From 1977 to 2012 she was married to James H. Owens for 35 years until his death on February 8, 2012.

Proceeded in death by her husband James H. Owens Sr., sons Huey W, Tony, Michael Granderson, Daughter Gail G. Walker, Parents Mother Veada Battle, Father William Battle, Grandson Michael McKee, Great Granddaughter MiJoy Veada McKee, Sisters Mary Lyle, Barbara Covington, Uncles Sherman Flint, Henry T. Flint and Clarence Flint and Aunts Celestine Martin and Gladys Flint Jones.

She leaves to cherish her memory special granddaughter and care giver India (Andreus) Granderson Maben and grandson Raysean Pinager Jr., 10 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, friend and former spouse Huey Granderson Sr., 2 Daughter in Laws, 1 Son in law, 1 Sister in Law, 1 Step Daughter and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

Visitation 9:00am and Home Going Service 10:00am Saturday December 18, 2021 at Love Zion Missionary Baptist Church 1459 Madison Ave. Interment at Union Cemetery.  Ministry of Comfort entrusted to MARLAN GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E.
