A life that was precious to us departed on April 28, 2023 when Michael Eugene Winfield was summoned
from this life to life eternal.
Michael Eugene Winfield was born in Atlanta, Georgia on November 18, 1942 to the Late Eddie Mae
Winfield-Smith and the Late Eugene Winfield. He was the first of two sons born to that union. Michael was
raised and delicately nurtured by his loving Mom, whom he affectionately called “Ma Dear” and she became
his first love and best friend.
He attended the Atlanta Public School System and was a graduate of the Henry McNeal Turner High
School.
He was reared in a Christian home and confessed Christ as his personal Savior at a tender age and was
baptized at Saint Paul of the Cross Church. He later united with the Philadelphia Baptist Church and
matured in faith under the leadership of Rev. W.W. Morris, Sr. After relocating to Columbus, Ohio, he united
with Triedstone Baptist Church and remained faithful until his health prevented regular activity and
attendance. At Triedstone, he proudly served as a member of the Senior Usher Board and the Male
Chorus.
Another dimension of his life included a six-year tour of Military Service in the United States Airforce. After
his honorable discharge from the military, he embarked on a career in Insurance Sales with Nationwide
Insurance Company. Michael was a people person with a gift of gab which lead him to employment with
Walker’s Mens Clothing and Jacobson’s of Columbus, where he became a master salesman of Men’s
Suits. When both stores eventually closed, he embarked on a new area of employment with the Columbus
City School System, where he worked until retirement in 2016.
His life’s journey fully blossomed while at Triedstone where he met and married his beautiful wife, Nancy on
November 25, 1989. They loved, struggled, prospered together and shared in the nurturing of a blended
family of six children.
Michael loved all sports but golfing and chess where his passion. He was an avid golfer and was always
ready to tee it up even on rainy, cold, or smothering hot days. He also loved chess but would always
complain because he could not find anyone to play a game with him. Consequently, he taught his
granddaughter, Sidney to play.
Michael loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was the life of any party, whether it was a family gathering,
on a cruise ship or a guy’s night out. Although he had to endure a progressive debilitating illness, he never
lost his gritty determination and courage. No matter how he may have been feeling, he would always tell
you, “I’m ok, still standing on my own two feet.” To that end, he did it his way.
Leaving his family and friends with an enduring legacy of tenacity and perseverance. He dearly loved his
children and had his own special way of making each one feel that they were his favorite.

Michael was preceeded in death by his Mother: Eddie Mae Winfield-Smith; Father: Eugene Winfield;
Brothers: Jerome Winfield and Eddie Smith; Sisters: Michelle Winfield and Naomi Muzzi; Step-Son: Eric
Nesbitt, Sr.
Precious memories will forever be cherished by his Loving Wife: Nancy Winfield; Five Children: Clifford
(Eunika) Jordan, Ryan (Asia) Hutchinson, Kimberly (Cory) Burke, Tombi (J. Erick) Williams and Cynthia
Jordan; Sister: Janet (James) Anderson: Brother: Rev. Karl Eli Smith; Sister-in-Love: Juanita Winfield;
