Lightly SherriNewspaper001 e1458323019126

Sherri Lynn Lighty, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Clifton and Alberta Lighty and birth parents, the late Leroy Payne and Geraldine Williams, was born on March 9, 1963 in Columbus, Ohio. At age 53 she departed this life on Friday March 11, 2016 at Mt. Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital.

Sherri attended St. Francis DeSales High School and would later become employed at Kohl’s Department Store. She personally loved her job dearly, and was well respected for being such a hard worker and always bringing a smile to customers and employees faces. She was employed there for over a decade before taking ill sometime after.

She was always known for her warm smiles, big heart, unselfishness, and motherly and upbeat personality and always had a way of lightening the mood. Family and friends were the most important to her no matter the race, and she always treated everyone as equals. She just loved life and cherished every moment that passed by and never took for granted each day she was able to wake up to see another day. She always made sure that her third son (her four legged feline Shadow) knew how much they were loved, and would do everything in her power to make sure they were happy.

Sherri is preceded in death by parents Leroy Payne and Geraldine Williams, Clifton and Alberta Lighty; brother Ciney Williams, and leaves to mourn her passing; life partner Bill Watson; sons Corey Lighty and Joshua Watson-Lighty; brothers Richard Lee (Anita) Lighty, Ricky (Daphene) Richardson, Paul (Sylvia) Williams, Lee Williams and Craig Williams; sisters Melody Gardner, Loleita (Carl) Williams Marshall and Lora Williams, as well as devoted bestfriends and sisters Janie (Tom) Scalf Maccabee and Tonia Henslee.

Visitation 2:00pm and Memorial Service 3:00pm Saturday March 19, 2016 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE 2500 Cleveland Ave.

We are saddened to hear of Sherri’s passing. She was a sweet young lady and always was smiling and upbeat. Our family lived in the same neighborhood for about 15 years and she actually worked with my husband at the Kohl’s Northland Store for a while.

Our lives are forever changed. She will be missed soo much.
