Mary E. Brown (Nanna) was born January 13, 1938. She was the eldest born to the union Otis and Ora Neal. Mary accepted CHRIST at an early age. Upon the family’s relocation from Concord Georgia to Columbus Ohio they became members of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church were she began her service to GOD. As a youth she was a member of the youth choir, Jr. Usher board, Sunday school, and Y.P.D. As an adult she continued her service to God as a member and in leadership on many of the organization of the church for 63 years. Her most rewarding service was to missions. She wanted to help those in need and worked to developed many programs and to help fund outreach services. She loved children and was a devoted Sunday School teacher to many nursery and primary age students. Because of that love she accepted the positions of, Assistant Sunday School Superintendent and the Director of Vacation Bible School at Bethel A.M.E. Church. She later became a member of Mt Vernon Avenue A.M.E. Church and was an active member of the Essie Hamilton Missionary Society until she began to have challenges with her health. Mary was educated in the Columbus Public School System and was a retired employee of Grant Medical Center. In 2011 Mary relocated to High Point N.C. and attended Memorial United Methodist Church of High Point and soon became active with the Silver and Gold Ministry until her health once again became a challenge. During her life’s journey, Mary opened her heart to many. Mary was a true ambassador for Christ and because she shared her love for him with everyone she met, she brought others into His fold to share in His love.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents Otis and Ora Neal, brother Virgil Neal, sisters Janie and Connie Neal

Daughter Mary Frances Suzan (Meuse) of High Point N.C., son Richard T Brown Jr. (Donna) of Columbus Ohio. Grandchildren Charmelle (Marci) Brown, Phillip (Chee Chee) Brown, Jamie (Nikki) Kenneth Bledsoe, Christopher Neal, Ryan Brown, Rashad Brown. Sisters Ann ( Richard) Williams, Beulah Arnold, Trummie (Nancy ) Neal, and Carolyn Turner all of Columbus Ohio, Thelma Flowers of High Point N.C. Brother James (Terri) Neal of Columbus Ohio .Aunt Jean (Richard) Boyer of Los Angeles C.A. Cousin Helen Owens of Concord Georgia, Extended family Paulette, Annette, Barbra, Rochelle, Dorothy, Melvin Jr., Lisa and Renee. Twenty-two great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren. Life long friend Mrs. Annie Scott and Mrs. Minnie R. Harris . Devoted Spiritual Counselor Rev. David Todd. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.

Visitation 12:00 noon and Funeral 1:00pm Saturday September 8, 2018 at Mt. Vernon AME Church 1127 Mt. Vernon Ave.

Interment at Evergreen Burial Park.
