Brenda Arlene Medley, 72, was born Brenda Arlene Sims in Columbus, Ohio on March 31, 1949 to the late Georgia Mae Sims and James Henry Sims, Sr.

Brenda attended Marion-Franklin High School and earned both a Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic Engineering and a Culinary Arts associate’s degree. As an Electrician Journeyman, Brenda was one of Ohio’s very first Black, female electricians.

Brenda showed an interest in home economics at an early age and was an excellent seamstress and cook. She was well known for her fried chicken and banana pudding.

Those left to cherish her memory are her 4 children, Kimberly (Brian) Suiter, Kevin Sims (deceased), Stanley Sims, and Stratton (Melissha) Medley; 19 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; brothers, George (Patricia) Sims, James Sims, Jr. (deceased), and sister Claudette Foster.

Also left to cherish her memory are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Knowing Brenda, you knew that she loved music. She always wanted the best for everyone, and with a free spirit and a kind, giving heart, she was always willing to give or share whatever she had. Brenda might have had many health challenges, but she never allowed it to change her outlook on life. She was always positive, upbeat, and caring. That is the way we will always remember her.
