Anna “Pottie” Lavoy Collins was born to the late Thurman Price and Gwendolyn Goode Price on August 12, 1948, in Columbus, Ohio. She was the oldest of 2 children.

Anna departed this earthly life on Friday, November 18, 2022, in her home. She was 74 years of age. Preceded in death by her father; Thurman Price, loving mother; Gwendolyn Hudson, loving stepfather; Dwight Hudson, grandmother; Anna W. Goode, special aunts; Betty J. Roddy, Linda C. (Sang) DeJarnett, special uncle; Ronald L. Goode, uncle; Leroy Collins, Jr. and son; William E. Collins II.

Anna was educated in the Columbus Public School system, where she graduated from Central High School, class of 67’. Anna was on the homecoming court and was a majorette for Central High School, where she taught her brother, Dwight Hudson, who became the first black drum major for The Ohio State University.  Upon graduation, she attended Bliss Business School of Columbus.

At an early age, Anna attended Bethany Baptist Church, where she became a faithful member for over 50 years. She established her nickname “Pottie” at an early age, which she carried with her, throughout her entire life.

Among Anna’s many talents, she had a love for helping others, cooking awesome food (“especially those signature baked beans”), shopping, and dedicating her life to God and her family.

Anna retired from the State of Ohio and previously worked for The Credit Bureau of Columbus, Bank One, and Blue Cross Blue Shield. Anna “Pottie” will be truly missed; she had a heart of gold that put a smile on all our faces!

I’ve known Annie as long as she has been at Bethany, but knew her better in the last few years when she worked with the Bethany Baptist Church Fresh Produce Market Giveaway as an intake receptionist. Her smile would always draw you in and her soft spoken-ness would keep you there. Sometimes God picks earthly flowers to see them up close in Heaven. Annie is with Him now, waiting on the rest of us. May the family be comforted in that knowledge. You loved her, but God loved her best.
