Deaconess Anna Mae Rutland was born June 24, 1930 to the late Winnie and Willie Johnson in Athen, GA. She departed this life unexpectedly ae The Ohio State University, Thursday, May 14, 2020 at the age of 89.

Sister Rutland was converted early in life and was active in her church home in GA. She went to Nursing School in Roma, GA to be an LPN.

Sister Rutland met and married the love of her life Lester Rutland on June 28, 1957. From this union4 children were born. Upon marriage the two moved from Macon, GA. to Columbus, OH. She worked as a LPN at various hospitals and nursing homes in the city.

Sister Rutland joined Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church. She was a Deaconess.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Winnie and Willie Johnson; and husband, Lester Rutland.

She leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Lester (Les) L. Rutland; three daughters, Wanda S. Rutland, Felicia (Lisa) A. Waddy, and Theresa (Tussy) A. Bryant, all of Columbus, OH; four grandchildren, Leslie A. (Eric) Armstrong, Cameron B Waddy, Manzona Bryant IV, MacGregor J. T. Downey; three great grandchildren, Troy D. Fowler Jr., Gwendolyn Sabrina Ann Armstrong, and Vera Noel Waddy-Hess, all of Columbus, OH; five first cousins, Albert T. (Jean) Butler, Josie B. Crowder, Anna (Willie) Clark, Katie Hill, and Betty Burgess, all from Georgia; one niece, Lula (Willie) Fowler, from Georgia; very special friend, Elestine Lawson, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Private services Visitation 9AM and Funeral Service 11AM Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave. A mask is mandatory.

Interment at Franklin Hills Memory Gardens.

I am sorry to learn of the passing of your loved one. I went to Sonshine with Leslie. I had been over to the house several times. Every time I was over to the house she was always so nice and welcoming. I will keep the family uplifted in prayer during this most difficult time.
