Anthony Edwards 2

Anthony James Edwards departed this life on February 22, 2020. He was born January 20, 1958, the fifth son of Sallie and Willie Edwards. Affectionately called “Tony”, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Scott Edwards, his parents Sallie and Willie Edwards, his son Anthony Edwards, and his brothers, Larry and Albert Edwards.

Tony grew up in Talbotton, Georgia where he attended St. Phillips Methodist Church. It was there that he learned to love the Lord and to cherish his family. He graduated from Ruth Carter High School where he was an amazing athletic, “a Basketball Star ” and an excellent tennis player. During his formative years, he was sometimes described as having a wild and wonderful spirit who was caring and compassionate.

At an early age he followed in his father’s footsteps and went to work on the railroad. He remained in that position for several years, leaving when he decided to join family members in Cleveland, Ohio. He soon learned that he had the interest, talent and motivation to work in the home restoration industry. He especially enjoyed working with cement and soon became proficient in that area.

For a number of years, he worked with his Uncle Otis Hawkins laying sidewalks, installing driveways and parking lots. After the family moved to Columbus, Tony soon followed and along with his brother Albert, joined the highly demanding Crockett’s Building and Remolding Company. During that stint he was involved in almost every aspect of the building and remodeling business. Whether as a partner working with his brother, Albert, or as a member of a well -established Company, Tony continued to work in the housing restoration- business until his health began to fail.

Tony loved people and was especially supported of those who might be considered as the under dogs. He was especially kind to children and the elderly. His nieces and nephews loved him dearly. He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Dixon; son, Carlos Dixon; step-son, Tony Scott; brothers, Willie (Nicolette) Edwards and Michael Edwards; sisters, Ruby (Gary) Smith, Laura Edwards, Gale (Jerry) Thornton, Robin Edwards, Cheryl Edwards and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
