Anthony Russell

On March 19, 1954, in Welch, West Virginia, Anthony Rex Lynn Allen Russell was born to Bernice R. Brooks and Robert Crews. He answered God’s call and departed this life on Sunday, September 2, 2018, at Mt. Carmel Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.

At an early age, Anthony or “Twon” as he was known to friends and family, moved to Columbus, Ohio, where he lived with his grandparents, the late Luther and Ossie Russell. He received his education in the Columbus Public School system, graduating from East High School, where he was a star athlete.  After graduation, he worked as a factory worker and was employed at a variety of places in Columbus.

Early in his adult life, he was married to Catherine Shaw and from this union they were blessed with one child, LaDonna.

Twon was an avid bowler and often offered free advice on how to improve one’s bowling. He also enjoyed fishing, listening to music, taking and sharing pictures, and other sports. His favorite NFL team was San Francisco 49ers and his favorite college team was the Michigan Wolverines.  He could have extensive, exciting conversations about sports and current events.  On his trips to Washington, D.C. to visit his mother and other family members, he would attend The Greater First Baptist Church.  There, his circle of friends grew larger.

As a child, Anthony often attended church with his grandparents and other family members. He later was baptized and joined Lincoln Park Community Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend James Carter, Jr.  There, he served on the Usher Board and faithfully attended Bible study, Sunday School and Sunday services.

Twon will be missed by family and friends. Left to cherish his precious memories are his mother, Bernice Brooks (Washington,D.C); children: LaDonna A. Russell (Maryland), Robert Russell (Washington, D.C.), and Daylon Favours (Columbus, Ohio); sister, Donna A. Brooks (Maryland);  two grandsons, Jalen, and Daylon, Jr.; two devoted aunts, Patsy (Roosevelt) Barnes and Maxine Dillard both of Columbus, Ohio; and a host of family and friends.

Visitation 10:00am and Funeral 11:00am Monday September 10, 2018 at Lincoln Park Community Baptist Church 675 Markison Ave.

Interment at Glen Rest Memorial Estates.
