Ashley Rushelle Simpson

Ashley Rushelle Simpson was born October 13, 1987 to Russell Simpson and Sandra Miller Simpson in Columbus Ohio. She transitioned from this life on Sunday, September 19th, 2021 at her home in Columbus, Ohio.

Ashley was a member of Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church where she joined as a child. She was a member of the junior ushers.

Asley attended Columbus City School System, Fairwood Elementary, South High, where she was a member of the drill team. She later transferred and graduated from East High School. She also attended Ohio School of cosmetology for a brief period. She was employed in the food service department at Capital University, this was brief due to the early onset of her illness.

Ashley was never married and loved little children. She never had children of her own, but she loved spending time around her little cousins and children of friends. She’d follow them on Facebook.

Ashley cherished her pet companions that she had throughout the years. Her last dog was a boxer mix names Prada. He was her best friend and companion for the last five years.

Ashley’s hobbies were hair and nail styling. She had a room set up like a salon as a teen. She was quite the neighborhood hairstylist to her young friends and their moms and aunties. Ashley also loved to sing, dance, and shop. She loved purses and shoes.

Asley was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Richard and Mabel Simpson; brother, Tyrone Miller and great aunt, Ida Smith.

Ashley leaves to cherish her memory her Grandmother, Verda Mapp Smith; Great Aunt, Nina Wofford; Mother Sandra Miler Simpson; Father, Russell Simpson; Sister, Yolanda Jones (Kenneth); nephew, Diamiyah Collick; Niece, Sankay Jones; Great Nieces, Juliana Bonton and Amira Howell; Uncle, Donald Miller, Thomas, Curly and Benny Simpson; Aunties, , Nina Rice Smith, Verdie Yoga Watkins (Jay), Angela Smith; Godmother, Lucy Nelson; Cousins, Lavonna Allen, Tasha Miller Brown, Damion Gilliam, Brandi SmithBanner (Nelly), Bernard (KG) Barbour, Kenyata Dourch as well as a host of other Uncles, Aunts, Brothers, Sisters Cousins and Friends.

PUBLIC Visitation 10:00 AM PRIVATE Visitation 11:00 AM and Private Funeral Service 12:00 PM Monday, October 4, 2021 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave. (one block east of Noe Bixby, turn North on Lonsdale Rd.). Interment at Green Lawn Cemetery.

  1. Me and Ashley were classmates at Southmoor Middle School. I just want to extend heartfelt condolences from my family and myself to Ashley’s loved ones during this tough time.
