In Memorial

AUGUSTA L. HICKS passed away at Mt. Carmel East Hospital, Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at the age of ninety-four. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Mattie Asby; two sons, Gaylord and Michael Hicks; and one grandson, Tyrone.

Augusta was born April 6, 1924 in Tate, Georgia. She was a graduate of Tate High School where she played basketball. It was the beginning of her love for sports and led to her becoming a die-hard Reds fan. On March 1, 1943, Augusta married her sweetheart, Amos, in Columbus, Ohio. From that union, together they reared five children and made the South Side of Columbus their home. Augusta met no strangers, had a sense of humor, was loving, compassionate, and loved to cook. Their home became a “South Side hangout place.” Prior to her husband’s demise, she and Amos celebrated seventy-three years of marriage.
Augusta was a dedicated, meticulous, committed employee. For ten years, she worked at Marzetti Restaurant and later retired as a dietician from The Ohio State University. Augusta loved to travel and over the years went to California, Hawaii and took several cruises.

Augusta toiled unselfishly in building God’s Kingdom. She loved the Lord and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age. For sixty-six years, Augusta was a member of Mt. Carmel Community Baptist Church and recognized as a Mother of the Church. She attended Sunday School regularly and was a devoted member who served faithfully on the Usher Board.

Augusta is survived by her loving and devoted family who celebrate her legacy: three children: Dr. Clayton (Patricia) Hicks, Wanda Hicks, and Nedra Williams; sixteen grandchildren; fifty-one great grandchildren; and twenty-seven great-great grandchildren; one brother, Steve (Gina) Asby of Detroit, Michigan; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; a long-time, special friend, Mary Franklin.

Visitation 11am and Funeral 12non on Thursday May 17, 2018 at Mt. Carmel Community Baptist Church, 608 Stambaugh Ave.

Interment Green Lawn Cemetery

To the family and friends of Augusta, I am so sorry for your loss. Words can not express the pain we feel when a close family bond is broken by death! May your faith in God’s promises grow as his word at 1 Corinthians 15:25, 26 says, “For he (Jesus) must rule as king until God has put all enemies under his feet. And the last enemy, death, is to be brought to nothing.”
