Barbara graduated from Fredericktown High School. She was an excellent student who graduated from High School with a 4.0 GPA. After graduation, Barbara was gainfully employed for 35 years by federal government at DCSC in Columbus, Ohio where she became computer savvy and able to operate computers that were the size of a room.

She was a trailblazer in many ways during a time when women often were not afforded the opportunity to excel and more noteworthy, being a Black Women in a field often that required intellect rather than manual labor, speaks volumes about her fortitude and her character.

During her earlier years, Barbara loved to bowl and was secretary for her league. She loved to watch collegiate sports but not professional sports. She was an avid reader throughout her lifetime. She loved exercising her mind by simply using it to learn and be knowledgeable about the trends of our ever-changing culture. She solved word puzzles and read People magazine until her eyesight began to diminish in recent months. She gave to a lot of charities annually. She is preceded in death by her father, James A.
