Barbara Jean Bowman-Lowry passed away on September 7, 2023, at 84. Born and raised in the Linden area, she graduated from Linden McKinley High School and Ohio Dominican University.

Barbara was a devoted member of First AME Zion Church for 70 years and cherished spending time with her family at church and family gatherings. She was an avid learner and enjoyed giving back to her community through volunteering, community campaigns, and elder adult literacy. She enjoyed activities like bowling, baking cakes, reading Danielle Steele novels and Black History books, crocheting, and traveling. She was also a board-certified paralegal, licensed for real estate and travel agent.

Barbara was affiliated with the Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Prince Hall Utopia Chapter, Eastern Star Daughter of Isis (Columbus Chapter), Order of Eastern Star Martha No. 1 (Grand Rapids, Michigan) and former member of the Eldon B. Ward Eastside YMCA, Central State University Mothers Club member. She retired after serving over 40 years at Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Annabelle (Modena) Bowman; husband, Raymond Lowry Jr; brother, James Bowman; grandson, Nicholas Kimbro; niece, Candy Bowman, and son-in-law Carlos Velez Montalvo; Rev. Robert Butcher, and James Smith.

Barbara is survived by her daughters, Minister Rejina Velez Montalvo and Dianne (Ronald) Kimbro; son-in-law, Richard Jamison Sr.; grandchildren, Richard Jamison Jr., Harrington Kimbro, Amelia Kimbro, and Sarah Kimbro; great-grandchildren, Maliyah, Dajuan, and Jaleisia Jamison, and Deangelo Jones; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends who will always cherish her memory.

Visitation 10:00am and Funeral 11:00am Thursday, September 21, 2023 at First AME Zion Church, 873 Bryden Road.

Interment at Dayton National Cemetery.
