Bernard Ronzario Pettway, affectionately known as “Bam,” was born on February 8, 1969 to the late Linda Pettway and Albert Warren in Washington, DC. He departed this life on December 12, 2019.

With his mother and brother, Bam moved to Columbus, Ohio as a toddler and lived there the rest of his life. He was educated in the Columbus City School system. After graduation he worked various jobs, but mostly as a bouncer at various establishments throughout Columbus. He loved his job and, when necessary, treated customers with a respectful, yet firm hand.

Bam loved family. Each of us have our own personal stories of Bam, but we have one thing in common. No matter the circumstance, his face always lit up when he saw family. He would greet us with a special name and a great big, gentle bear hug. He ended every encounter with 3 simple and heartfelt words, “I love you.”

Bam leaves to cherish his memories his brother, William Stacy (Coretta) Pettway of Columbus, Ohio; son, Lawrence Burton and daughter, Lena (Amber) Palmer, both of Columbus, OH; three grandchildren; one niece; two nephews; and a host of extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Bam was also preceded in death by his beloved Auntie Amanda Pettway and his loving companion of 20+ years, Laurie Burton.

Visitation 10:00AM and Funeral Service 11:00AM Saturday, December 21, 2019 at New Horizons Christian Fellowship 1428 Fairwood Ave.

Condolence from Liatrice Pass on December 18th, 2019 9:00 pm

I don’t know where to start. You were the epitome of my childhood as so many of my memories entail your laughter usually of something I wasn’t supposed to be doing. You were the uncle my brother and I always loved and smiled so hard inside and out whenever we got to see you. I thank you for my driving lessons, my boxing lessons and the talks about life in general. I still giggle when I think of you laughing at me stuffing Nita in the closet after she slapped me. Leroi will miss you greatly as he says you were the one of the most loving positive male figures in his life and I feel the same. I love you uncle Bam…until we meet again.

I don’t know where to even start with this man , this friend, this role model . I called this friend and closes person to a dad that Mr Bernard , he meant so much to me as the years go on and creating memories for me and my family to remember which was something rare that he was able to do so easily. He even gave me a nickname when we first met chuckaluck. Even tho we weren’t tied by blood , he was more than family and I’ll always remember BIG NARD! Rest In Peace

It still feels unreal to me, but our Heavenly Father asks that we lean not on our own understanding. Just know that God is in control. It’s ok to mourn in your own way, then remember the Big Guy who’s hugs made us all feel safe, who’s words made us all laugh, and who’s smile made us all feel loved. My prayers for everyone who’s heart is hurting right now. Bam is smiling down on us all right now and we forever have an angel watching over us. Rest peacefully Big Bro, love you always. Until we meet again ❤️
