Bettie Jean McGhee Bivens Cleveland Whitaker, 73. Sunrise November 18, 1943 in Gaston, AL and Sunset January 1, 2017 at Select Specialty Hospital in OSU East.

Our beloved mother and her family moved to Charleston, West Virginia shortly after she was born and at the tender age of 17 she moved to Columbus, Ohio. After going through trials and tribulations, she met the love of her life, Squire Cleveland and they were together for 20 splendid years before he passed on to rest in peace. Our mother was very caring, and beautiful, intelligent and very resilient her entire life, and most important our mother loved God and Jesus. We will miss her tremendously.

Bettie was a Nurse Aide at The State Mental Hospital and Grant Medical Center. She attended various churches including Victory Deliverance Church. She was also on the Windsor Terrace Resident Council. Bettie especially loved her children, coffee, bingo, bowling and fishing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel McGhee and Lula Mae Brown McGhee; husband Squire Cleveland and brother Edward McGhee.

Left to cherish her memory, daughters, Bridgette J. McGhee-Williams and Mia Cleveland-Williams; sons Troy Cleveland, William S. McGhee, Michael McGhee Bivens, Cornelius Cleveland and Jerome (Lisa) McGhee; sister Pearl Mae (Michael) Brown; brother Robert Stevenson McGhee; former spouse, William Bivens, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, other family and friends.

Condolence from F. M. on January 10th, 2017 11:47 am

I am so sorry for your loss. May the peace God (Psalms 83 vs 18) that excels all thought safeguard your heart as you go through this difficult time. In times like this, it is very comforting that we can call on and rely on our family friends and more importantly our God for “peace that excels all thoughts” (Philippians 4 vs 6).

To: The Whitaker Family.
I am sorry for your lost. May you find comfort in God’s word the Bible. Jesus said: At John 6:40 For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who recognizes the Son and exercises faith in him should have everlasting life, and I will resurrect him on the last day.
May the hope and promises in this Scripture bring you comfort and strength to endure the difficult days ahead.
