Betty Lee Dungy, age 85, of Columbus, OH, passed away on February 6, 2021.
Betty was born in Radford, VA, on July 24, 1935, daughter of the late Homer, Sr., and Angelina Lewis Johnson.
Betty was a devoted and loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She moved to Columbus, OH in the 1950’s where she met the love of her life. March 1958, she married her soulmate. From this union she had two children who she cherished and loved. A stickler for education, she raised her children with a fond love of learning and the courage to always pursue their dreams.
An inspiration to women in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), Betty became a trailblazer in the aerospace industry. She dedicated her entire career as a faithful employee of Rockwell International (Boeing) and BF Goodrich Flight Systems. Betty was proud of the significant work she did on the electronic system of the B1 Bomber. She retired from BF Goodrich Flight Systems in 2000 leaving a legacy for the future of other young women aspiring to work in the aerospace and STEM fields.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Homer, Sr., and Angelina Lewis Johnson and brother, Carlton Lewis Johnson.
Betty is survived by her spouse, Charles Edward Dungy; sons, David and Jason Dungy; brother, Homer Johnson, Jr; sister-in-law, Ruby Johnson.
