Beverly Smith Main Photo 2

Beverly Jean Smith was born on March 16, 1939 in Columbus, Ohio; the first born of the union of Luther Johnson and Iona Hoover Johnson. Beverly was a life-long resident of Columbus. She was the matriarch of the Johnson-Hoover family, a very strong willed individual and when asked, told you just how it was! Beverly met and married Arthur Lee Broadnax in 1957; and out of that union they had five children: Gary, David, Linda, Elgin and Quintin. Beverly loved being with and spending time with her family; especially children, grandchildren Brandon Broadnax, DerRick, DerRon Turner (Granny Girls Brittany Broadnax, Christina Turner, Devin Broadnax and Tynesha Broadnax) and also doted over her great grandchildren! By having 4 boys and married to an avid sports fan Beverly also loved her sports (especially the Kansas City Chiefs).

She was baptized in her early years at Union Grove Baptist Church. Later in life Beverly united with Bethany Baptist Church, where she was involved in several ministries and met and married her future husband the Reverend Stuart Dean Smith. Her ministry involvement included the senior usher board, senior choir and a member of Minister Wife’s and Widow Alliance. Also, supporting her husband, Reverend Smith ventured out to start Bethany’s outreach at the New Birth Ministries.

Beverly is preceded in death by parents Luther and Iona Johnson, husband the Reverend Stuart Dean Smith, siblings, Luther Jr, Allen, Eileen and Darren Johnson.
She leaves to cherish her memory children, Gary (Crystal) Broadnax, David (Jackie) Broadnax, Linda (Roosevelt) Turner, Elgin and Quintin Broadnax; sisters Carolyn Martin, Diane Hawkins, special cousin Izetta Brown, several nieces and nephews and cousins, family and friends.
