Bishop Larry Don Cochran Jr. was born in Columbus, Ohio on December 20th, 1961. He was the son of Anna Ruth Cochran and Larry Don Cochran Sr. He attended Columbus Public Schools and graduated from Central High School in 1980, where he exceled as a member of the track and field team and the school band. An electrician for the city of Columbus and a Chaplain at Sonshine Christian Academy, Bishop Cochran left a large impact on the city and those he came into contact with. After having served as an elder under the late Bishop Sandy Dunlap (Grandfather) and Bishop Clarence Caldwell, he continued his path of ministry as Bishop of Uplift Christ Outreach Center and Heart of Christ, where he cultivated a sense of community in the Linden area, our LINDEN HERO.

He is preceded in death by: His mother; Anna Ruth Cochran, grandparents; Sandy and Emma Dunlap, Dora Cochran, aunts; Ruby (Arthur) Smedley, Mildred Lawson; uncles Bishop Raymond (Lillian) Dunlap, Joe (Doris) Dunlap.

He leaves to cherish his memories: Father Larry Don Cochran Sr., sons Larry (Little Larry) Don Cochran, III and Robert (Bob) Cochran, Reco Johnson;  daughters Diana (his princess) Cochran-Lindsey (Tyrone Lindsey), Vannessa Williams, and Kennedie Williams, Sister Margaret Ann Cochran-Erife (Alex Erife),  Brother John Allen Cochran, the mother of his children Teresa Cochran, niece Tanisha Pruitt, PhD, nephew James Pruitt, and 17 grandchildren; goddaughter, and a host of cousins, family, and friends.

Bishop Cochran was a light in this world and a blessing to everyone who knew him. He had an infectious smile, larger than life personality, and the ability to make anyone laugh even on their darkest days. We will cherish all of the memories we have and know that Bishop will live on in our hearts and minds. As Bishop would always say….

“Say thank you Jesus”

Bishop, I will be forever grateful to you for opening up the doors of a neighborhood church for the sole purpose of baptizing my nephew and I one Sunday morning when we were so moved to give our hearts to God. I met Larry at Central High School and really got to know him as we rode the bus together to the Career Center.

We spent most of that time talking about the Lord and just encouraging each other to keep holding on.

My prayers are with the family and all those who knew and loved him. Praying God comforts and strengthens you during this time.

Condolence from Julia Thomas (Fadis) on January 12th, 2022 1:16 pm

To the Family of Bishop Cochran,
My sincere prayers to you. I remember this man of God when he opened up a church and crisis center in the Linden area. He would be out there cooking and providing food & ministering at a time when many would have been afraid or hesitant. May the Grace of God cover & comfort this beautiful family. The spirit of giving and ministry continues on with this family as they were also very instrumental when I suffered a loss. So, I say to you continue the race for which God has called you all to do, continue to lift up the Name of Jesus and carry the gospel to all who will receive. Blessings to you all
