SmithBonnie

Bonnie Smith, age 78, gained her wings on November 25, 2021. Bonnie was born on March 22, 1943 to Millard and Fannie Mae Upshaw.

Bonnie graduated from East High School. She worked as an X-Ray Technician at Doctors North; but transitioned to being a wife and full-time mother. Bonnie enjoyed traveling, especially cruising where she could unwind and catch up on her daily puzzles. Bonnie enjoyed spending time with her family, and always brought a Bingo game wherever she would visit. Most of all, Bonnie loved to curl up with a bag of Munchies or Cheez-it’s and watch her favorite judge programs. Bonnie was known for her signature dishes, banana pudding, Mac ‘n’ cheese, potato salad and her infamous deviled eggs.

Bonnie was affectionately known as the neighborhood mother, and caregiver to countless family members and friends. Everyone always knew when visiting the Smith house there would be an endless supply of snacks, popsicles, and candy. Bonnie always displayed joy, no matter the circumstance, and her joy was infectious.

Bonnie long awaited to be reunited with her HUSBAND and SOULMATE for over 51 years William Smith. Parents Fannie and Millard Sr., Sisters Millicent, Martha, brother Millard Jr. and sister Margie.

Bonnie is survived by children Kwane (Stacey Williams) Smith, Timolyn “Teechy” Smith-Lyles, Kenyan (Catriece) Smith; stepchildren Debbie (Charles) Harris, Dana (Ronald) Aekins, William “Gary” (Julie) Smith; siblings Betty, Jeanette, Linda, Carolyn, Vincent, and Robin Upshaw; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.

Visitation 11:00am and Funeral 12:00pm Monday, December 6, 2021 at Trinity Baptist Church, 461 St Clair Ave.

Interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Bonnie was one of the best sister-in-laws in the world. She always had a smile and a great sense of humor. One of the sweetest and loving Aunt’s to my children. She was always able to make them smile and feel comfortable in a large gathering. Heaven has truly gained an Angel. I will always love Bonnie. I’m sure that William was waiting to meet her with open arms! Rest well until we see each other again. I’m praying for everyone’s strength, as this is very hard to accept. Aunt Bonnie was definitely a beacon of light. She was always warm and welcoming to me. I pray for your family and ask our Heavenly Father to grant you all love, comfort, peace and strength in this moment now, and always. My heart will simply leave this powerful prayer to cover you in your time of need. I love you all.

Psalm 18:2
Blessed God, You are my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my Lord You are my rock, in whom I take refuge. You are my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold! Father, I pray that I put my trust in You, even in my mourning, even after experiencing such a great loss, I pray that I lean on You because I know that I cannot get through this alone. I know that in my own strength I am weak, Amen.
