Burdie E. Rucker, age 91, has completed her earthly assignment and was called home to be with the Lord on March 5, 2021. She passed away peacefully in the presence of her family at home, in Columbus, Ohio.

Burdie was born on April 17, 1929 to Charles and Carrie Wright Gillespie in Banks County Georgia. She was one of eight children born to their union. She spent her childhood in Commerce Georgia, attending Franklin County schools.

She was baptized early in life at Neal’s Grove Baptist Church in Georgia and re-baptized in 1999 at God’s House of Prayer in Columbus, Ohio.

Burdie married Timothy Rucker at an early age, and they were blessed with four daughters, Annie, Cora, Elizabeth, Lorine, and two sons, Timothy Jr, and Samuel. She was affectionately called “Big Momma” by her family.

Burdie worked for many years on the family farm and a chicken processing plant before moving to Ohio. After starting her family, she was a devoted mother and housewife, who loved the Lord.

Burdie adored the color pink. She was a stylish woman, known for her fashionable hats and jewelry. She enjoyed ordering Avon, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends. Big Momma will truly be missed by all.

Burdie is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, husband Timothy Rucker, daughters, Annie Jones and Elizabeth Bland, grandchildren, Gerald, Thomas and Loretta Hagwood, and Tommy Christopher David.

She leaves to cherish her memory, daughters Lorine Montigue, Cora David, sons Samuel D. (Alberta), Timothy Jr. (Carol); a host of grandchildren, great grand-children, other relatives and friends.
