Carole Leontyne Price

Carole Leontyne Price was born on January 20, 1942 in Gary, West Virginia to Robert O’neil and Hattie Louise Blakely. She departed this life on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at the age of 80.

Carole graduated from Gary District High School in Gary W.Va., and Bluefield State College.  She also received her master’s degree in education.

Carole was employed by Youth Opportunity Center for many years. She later retired as a middle school educator from Columbus City Schools.

Carole accepted Christ at an early age in West Virginia.  She joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. G. Thomas Turner, Sr. and remained a member for over 40 years.

Carole was affectionately known as “MeMa” to those who were close to her. She had a loving personality and a big giving heart. She often joked about being a philanthropist, because she freely gave to those who were in need, and those who were in want.  She enjoyed listening to music, watching old movies and attending The Ohio State Fair. Her greatest joy was found in spending time with her family. She loved reminiscing with her sisters about growing up in West Virginia, while eating meals together at the kitchen table.

Carole was preceded in death by her father, Robert Blakely; mother, Hattie Louise Nolen; and husband, James Odalis Price. She is survived by her sons, Brian K. Price, Jeffrey (MyKesha) Price, Todd (Areatha) Price; sisters, Delores Blakely Moore, Barbara Franks; 5 grandchildren Jeffrey (Alexandra) Price Jr., Jordan Price, Brittany Price, Taylor Price, Bethany Price; 2 bonus grandchildren LaPrecious Sharpe, Kylelin Williams;  great-grandchildren Jaidyn, Julianna, Legend, Jeffrey Alexander, Armani, Tanise, Cartier; nephews Chris Franks and Derrick Blakely; her niece Paula and great nieces Kara and Kyla who she lived with for the past 8 years; and a host of cousins, great nieces and nephews, friends and special friends Cheryl Goff, Antonia Jackson, Trichita Townes and Shirley Robinson. Carole will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

I met Carole when she was my favorite substitute at Southmoor Middle School. We became close friends when I was an administrator at Beery Middle School and Carole was a teacher. She often invited me into her prayer sessions that took place before school.
I remember visiting her when her dear husband passed.
She was a loving, very special lady and will be missed. My condolences to the family for such a great loss.
