Charles E. Smith

SmithCharles

Charles (Charlie) Edward Smith was born on November 13, 1943 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Leroy and Jessie Mae Smith, Sr. Charles grew up in East Liberty, also known as Frog Town in Pittsburgh. He attended Peabody High School and took on the trade of painting homes and businesses.

After living the majority of his life in Pittsburgh, Charles decided to follow his baby sister, Rosemary, and relocated to Reynoldsburg, Ohio in 2007. He developed new friendships and spent many days at family functions until his illness limited his ability to be out and about. Although Charles did not attend church on a regular basis, he had a solid Christian upbringing. Charles was spiritually inclined and understood the word. He would quote bible scriptures with an understanding of its meaning and welcomed a discussion.

Charles was known for loving music, dancing, playing cards, shooting pool, and most importantly fishing. It was nothing for him to walk miles with his bucket, bait, and rods to go fishing at the Allegheny River. As a young adult, he would compete and win many Yo-Yo competitions. Charles always had a competitive spirit and would often brag about winning.

Charles was humorous and always kept his family and friends laughing. His favorite statements and slogans were, “Don’t Ya Know!” and “Sure Ya Right!” Even though we sometimes did want to hear it, Charles spoke the truth! He was just “REAL!”

Charles was preceded in death by his Parents, Leroy and Jessie Mae Smith, Sr; Sister, Eloise Lavada Miller; Brother, Leroy Smith, Jr., and Sister Rosemary Lee.

Charles leaves to mourn 5 children; Daughters, Charlene Williams and Tammy (Woodrow) Kidd Watkins; Sons, Andre (Latoshia) Collington, Charles (Chuck) Smith, and Derrick Dwayne Smith; Sister, Janice Ward; Brother, Tyrone Gibson; Brother-in-Law, Jerry Lee; Sister-in-Law, Viola Beaty; 10 Grandchildren and 6 Great-Grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.
