Christer Bell (Davis) Carpenter passed away Nov 9, 2018, in Springfield. She was born Feb 6, 1923, in
Lincoln, Alabama, to Frank and Ida (Embry) Davis.
 
Chrissy, as she was called, moved to Springfield in 1940 with her mother and siblings after the death of
her father. She married James (Gene) Carpenter and moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where their 5
children were born. Chrissy and Gene returned to Springfield in 1956 and united with Highlight Baptist Church. Chrissy later united with Greater First Baptist Church, where she was a member until her health failed. She retired from Springfield Laundry after 25 years of service.
 
Chrissy’s husband, Gene; daughters, Barbara Toles, Annie Berry, and Christy Miller; and a son, Samuel Draker” Carpenter, all preceded her in death. 
 
She is survived by her daughter and caregiver, Priscilla (Princess) Carpenter; grandchildren, Mia Toles-Pickard; Theodore (Doug) Toles, Jr.; Dwayne J. Toles; Anika Pierce; Meeca Miller-Brooks; Gregory Miller, Jr.; and Delonda Miller-Day.
Chrissy’s sister, Annie Pearl Yates, also survives her as well as 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, who loved her
dearly. 
 
Chrissy was always a joy to be around and the life of any gathering. Her passing leaves a void with her many family members and friends.
 
Visitation 5:00pm and Home Going Service 6:00pm Friday, November 16, 2018 at Greater First Baptist Church 1175 Upper Valley Pike
 
Interment 10:00am Saturday at Ferncliff Cemetery.

    To the Carpenter family. We would like to express our sympathies to the family. My wife and I knew Chrissy thru the Springfield Laundry. I was the Office Manger at the laundry while Chrissy work there and my wife worked in the office as well. I would also like to express our sympathy to Annie Yates, who we also knew well through the laundry.
