Claretta Bennett (Clemons) departed this life on September 9, 2021 at the young age of 80. Claretta was born on November 15, 1940 in East St. Louis, IL. She moved to Detroit, MI in the early fifty’s where she resided with her dearly departed husband Johnnie Clemons Sr. They moved to Toledo, OH shortly after the birth of their first child Johnnie Clemons Jr. was born.

Claretta was a care giver to many, a devoted wife, and loving mother to her ten children and her grandchildren. She had a great sense of humor, was very outspoken and direct, always hospitable, loyal, devoted, generous, protective, and nurturing. She believed in working hard and achieving your goals and instilled that in her family. Claretta spent much of her life working as a security guard and was always dedicated to keeping others safe.

Claretta is preceded in death by her Grandmother Alburter Dennis, Mother Jammie Lee Atchison. Her husband Johnnie Clemons Sr. Her Sisters: Barbara Buchanan, Constance Riggs, Joan Van. Her children: Johnnie Clemons Jr, Sonny Clemons, Annetta Clemons. Her Granddaughter Tiffany Galloway.

Claretta is survived by her Uncle Robert Atchison, Brother Speed Allen Jr, Sister Elibath S. Wolfork, Cousin: Gloria Clark, Niece Angela Williams, Sons: Terrance (Veda) Clemons, Timmie Clemons, Randy Clemons. Daughters: Cherryl Denton, Penny Clemons, Lori Hill, Patricia Grant. Also survived by her 21 GrandChildren, 16 Great Grand Children, 4 Great-Great Grandchildren, and plenty of extended family.

 

 

 

Private Visitation 1:00 PM and Private Memorial Service 2:00 PM Saturday, September 25, 2021 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave. (one block east of Noe Bixby, turn North on Lonsdale Rd).
