Connie C. Martin was born into a family of four children on October 4, 1937 in Winston Salem, North Carolina to the late Thurman and Pauline Cockerham.

Connie attended Atkins High School in Winston Salem, North Carolina. After graduation she went on to Winston Salem State University in Winston Salem, North Carolina where she received her Bachelors Degree in Nursing. She then passed her NCLEX-RN licensure examination to become a Registered Nurse.

After a few years she landed at Schilling Air Force Base Hospital in Salina, Kansas. And soon after that she relocated to Columbus, OH where she began training new nurses in the Pediatric Clinic at Children’s Hospital. There she also served as a nursing supervisor. Upon leaving Children’s Hospital she ran a number of Home Healthcare Facilities before retiring.

Connie met her husband Tommie Martin Jr through mutual friends and family in Virginia. They were quickly married in December in the early 1960’s and her three sons were born from this union. They enjoyed spending time with their boys boating and picnicking on the Scioto River with neighbors, family, and friends. Once Tommie Jr passed, she continued to encourage her boys to do well in school and go on to college. She served as a Mary Kay consultant for a number of years.

To cherish her memory, Connie is survived by her two sons, Tommie Martin III and Gregory Allen Martin, and three grandchildren Tommie Martin IV, Armand Martin Jr, and Ananda Martin. She also leaves four nephews Darrell Butler, Damon Butler, Corey Cockerham, and Shawn Cockerham, and 5 great nephews Benjamin Butler, Oliver Butler, Miles Butler, Declan Butler, and Gaylan Butler.

She is preceded by Tommie Martin Jr, Armand Martin, Verleria Cockerham, Vernon Cockerham, and Curtis Cockerham.
