Darrin Turtle Glenn Marsh Jr.
Darrin, Born to Parents Deborah Fleming, Darrin Marsh and Terrence Carmichael on December 20, 1987,
unexpectedly lost his life due to senseless gun violence on April 30, 2023.
When Darrin was born his Auntie April picked him up and upon looking at him, she said he looked like a little baby
Turtle, thus gaining the nickname that he was so affectionately known by. He was a phenomenal basketball player
and Loved sports. And If some music came on, Turtle was definitely doing a two-step. Turtle was smart as a whip
too. They way that he could calculate numbers so quickly and in his head was remarkable. While in school he earned wonderful grades and many awards for his academic and sports achievements. To know Turtle was to love him. He NEVER met a stranger. From a young child, Turtle created family in almost everyone that he came across. His vibrant spirit and genuine heart shined through when he walked in a room. Turtle had a passion for people and if he rocked with you, you never had to question his loyalty. At 23 years old Turtle was sent to do time in White Deer, PA. During that time, he received his GED, became HVAC Certified and worked as a Unicore employee where he built and finished office furniture for the US Pentagon and the White House. He took pride in the brotherhood that he was a part of. He created bonds with good men who mentored him and loved him deeply. When he came home 10 years later, He made it a priority to make sure that those brothers stayed relevant in his life. He also took great pride in knowing that he did his time and didn’t switch up on anyone. He walked those years down with his head held high. He was Solid and everyone knew it. During his sentence he had to unfortunately endure the loss of his Aunt Donnia Sue Fleming. He loved her like a
mother and was crushed that he could not be with his family during that time. From that moment he was determined to get out and make her proud. Which he did.
Turtle was released on July 7, 2021. Not even a week later Turtle’s ambitious nature allowed him to acquire his driver’s license and land a good job. He worked for Heidelberg Distribution where he was a Forklift Loader. And later, worked at Evoke Wellness Rehab as a sobriety transporter, where he enjoyed mentoring recovering drug
addicts.

Turtle loved his family beyond measure. He was so excited to reunite with his Children, Grandmother, Mother, Cousins, Aunts, and Uncles. He did everything in his power even until his death to spend as much time as he could with them. He traveled countless times to Mansfield just to check on his people. Turtle’s children never went without his presence even while he was away. He loved being a dad and provider. He wanted nothing but the best for his children. Turtle loved that all of his kids looked just like him and often joked about them inheriting no pinky toenail and sleeping with their eyes open just like him. He was especially proud that his eldest daughter Nhy’Keelie (Kee Kee) was in college and about to be a nurse and that he was about to see his second oldest Zaniah who he named Poo Poo graduate from high school this year. No matter if you knew him by Turtle, Darrin, Turl, Turk, Darrin Dollaz or Southside you knew that he was a good genuine man that loved everyone. He was real, thoughtful, thorough, sensitive (at times), funny, loving, and solid. Not to mention he was very outspoken and thought he knew it all and would argue you down even when he knew he was wrong. He called “Biddin” LOL. He will be extremely missed by all.

Turtle was preceded in death by his Beautiful Aunt Donnia Sue Fleming. Uncle Boyd Fleming Jr., Grand Father Boyd Fleming, Sr. and Grand Parents Willie and Joann Marsh.

Turtle leaves to cherish his memory His Grandmothers Emma Ruth Fleming and Paula Carmichael- Cline of Mansfield. Great Grandmother Suchee Carmichael. Parents Deborah Ann Fleming and Darrin Marsh of Mansfield and Terrence Carmichael of Columbus. Children Nhy’Keelie Marsh of Mansfield. Zaniah Beauford, Ziyon Beauford, Zaiya Marsh all of Columbus. Darriyona Marsh, Malachi Marsh and Jenesis Fisher all of Mansfield. Sisters Briana Wentz of Mansfield. Curterra and Lourdis Carmichael of Columbus. Mariah Stewart Of Florida. Brother Terrence
Carmichael Jr. of Columbus. Aunts Edna Howard, April Jones, and Lawanda Marsh all of Mansfield. Cynthia MarshGamble of Indiana. Uncles Willie James Fleming, Mitchell Fleming, Thurman V. Jones, Carl Fleming, and Dan Jackson III all of Mansfield. Special Sister Cousins Takara and Telecia Morris of Mansfield. Special Cousin Brothers Trey Howard of North Carolina and Jodeci Crutcher of Elyria. Special Brothers Kenny McDaniel, Mike White, Carl Shannon, Darius Marshall and Xvaion Jones. And a host of Nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and friends that
became family.

Condolence from KATHLEEN L. DAVIS on May 6th, 2023 5:50 pm

Mrs. Kathleen Davis
I am so sorry for the loss of this young man.
I was his tenth grade English teacher at Mansfield Senior High School. With having taught for nearly 25 years there are a lot more students to remember, then there were me.
The fact that I don’t have a vivid memory of Darrin speaks volumes about him as a student.
Teachers remember the troublesome student more quickly than the good ones. Darrin was a good student in my class. What I do remember is that he did well in class and he genuinely seemed to enjoy the learning, he did his work and would come to my desk if he had questions.
Family, may your faith see you through this terrible loss.
