David Dickerson was born in Chicago to Louis and Lucille on October 24, 1964. His parents and three siblings-Eddie, Joyce, Debra-preceded him in death.
David was educated in the Chicago public school system. It was there he first became acquainted with playing drums, which would later become a lifetime passion.
In an effort to find new directions, David relocated to Columbus, Ohio; where he met, fell in love and married the love of his life, Janice Mills.
David loved God and he loved serving. He became a member of Smyrna Baptist Church in Columbus, under the leadership of his uncle, Bishop Fred L. Marshall. He later moved his membership to Serenity Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Derrick Bass.
David’s passion for playing drums led him to become a talented and renowned drummer – playing for various artists and a number of churches.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to David. He loved spending time with family and friends, especially with his many nieces and nephews. He got even greater enjoyment from assigning unique nicknames to family, friends, and even people in general – it didn’t matter.
David greatly prided himself on his sobriety. Along with family and friends, on January 18, 2021, he celebrated twenty-six liberating years! David often felt led to encourage others by sharing his life experiences.
Our Dear David departed this life on Friday, April 2nd, at Doctor’s Hospital.
His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his children, Ezettrick, David, Tamala and Christopher; 8 brothers, Henry Griffin (Shalonda), Louis Jr., Ronald, Gregory, Freddie (Regina), Frank (Cheryl), Anthony (Shelley), and Richard; 7 sisters, Geraldine (Kelvin), Patricia, Janet, Denise, Marjorie, Cynthia, and Shakeda; and his beloved Janice.
Cherishing his loving memories and remembering David with love are his nieces and nephews who he loved dearly and cherished unconditionally; extended family and friends; and special friends, Bobby, Larry, Xavier, Clarence, Marcus, Booker, Guy, Head, Linnie and Kid.
Sleep on Dear David and take your rest. We all love you dearly and yet, God loved you best!
