Tice Hampton was born on August 10, 1942 in Huntingdon, Tennessee to the late Clarence and Ada Hampton 2nd to youngest of 13 children.  Tice was raised in the church and accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized at Smyrna Baptist Church in Huntingdon.  He was a product of the public school system; he attended Webb Senior High School in McKenzie, Tennessee and graduated in 1963.

Tice’s love for singing the gospel was evident as a young man, while still living in Huntingdon, he along with his brothers and cousins formed a gospel group called the “4 Harps of Zion”, the group traveled to different states singing the gospel, they eventually came to Columbus, Ohio.. While in Columbus he was being pursued by several people to move here and sing with them.  Tice finally decided to move to Columbus and moved in with his cousin and her husband, who tried unsuccessfully to persuade Tice to sing R&B but he had a calling on his life to spread the gospel through song. Not only was he a brilliant singer, but he was a gifted pianist and guitarist.

Tice eventually joined Consolidated Baptist Church where he and Deacon Atwater formed the Consolidated Male Chorus.  The members of the Male Chorus were Tice, Deacon Sam Smith, Deacon Atwater, Brother Carter Sherman, and Deacon Alvin Barnett.  It was at Consolidated Baptist Church where he caught the eye of Deacon Smith’s daughter, Geneva.  They began dating and were married soon after on November 7, 1964. To this union they were blessed with 5 children, James Anthony, Kelly Lamont, Angel Renee, and Gregory Orlanda, the 5th (a baby boy) passed shortly after birth.  Tice and Geneva were married 58 years.

Tice was a strong God-fearing man.  He attended church regularly and he brought his family with him.  He was a Sunday School teacher, and he remained the founding leader of the Consolidated Male Chorus.  He also was the Chairman of the Deacon board for many, many years. He was a great provider for his family and a fierce protector.  Tice worked several jobs to take care of his family: the US Postal Service, Shasta, and A to Z Packaging to name a few. His last employer was TS Trim Industries. It was here where he was able to travel to Japan, and he always made time to travel back to his hometown of Huntingdon, Tennessee.

In 2011, Tice started showing signs of illness; over the years his illness progressively worsened, and on September 2, 2022, at 11:20pm in a hospital room at Riverside Methodist Hospital the Heavenly Father whispered to Tice, you have labored in the vineyard long enough.  It is now time to enter your eternal rest and He carried him to glory.

Tice is preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Ada Hampton; 6 brothers; 5 sisters; son James Anthony Hampton, and son (baby boy),  He leaves to cherish and honor his memory; his loving wife Geneva Hampton; daughter Angel Hampton; sons Kelly Hampton, Gregory (Angela) Hampton; granddaughters Marqicha Hampton; Alexis Hampton; Jordan Hampton; Kelly Alana Hampton; grandsons Marquise Hampton; Marvais Hampton; Jaylyn Stillwell; Goddaughter Theresa Johnson;4 great-grandchildren; Sister Mattie (Ivey) Jamison; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Tice will be truly missed but his legacy will live on in everyone who had the privilege to know and love him.

Visitation 11:00 AM and Funeral Service 12:00 PM Monday, September 12, 2022 at New Generation Church, 1173 Essex Ave.

Interment at Evergreen Burial Park.
