On Tuesday March 8th, 2022, Lenora (Lennie) Faye Orton, age 70 entered an eternal slumber when she answered the summons and kept her appointment with our almighty Lord and Savior. She peacefully passed away in her home surrounded by her children and loving husband Deacon Matthew Orton of 48yrs.

Lenora was born July 28, 1951, to the late Reverend James W. Mitchell and Delores Mitchell in Columbus, Ohio.

At a very early age, Lenora professed her love and acceptance of Christ in her life and was baptized at the Pilgrim Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Melvin James Mitchell. While at Pilgrim, she served faithfully in both the baby and youth choir. Later in life, Lenora became a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church where her father the late Rev. James W. Mitchell served as Pastor. For over 30+ years Lenora served faithfully in the following areas: Church secretary, Minister of Music, Women’s President, Youth Director, Deaconess Ministry, to name a few. Lenora also had the opportunity to serve as Women’s president over the Mount Calvary Association where Dr. Joseph Freeman served as moderator.

Her love for music has afforded her the wonderful privilege of traveling the world ministering in song with various groups and becoming one of the original singers of the Lyric Supremes of Columbus, Ohio. Lenora is known for being a woman of faith, order and most importantly faithfulness. Many have been touched by her life rather in song, words of encouragement, a home cooked meal, or just her presence being a mother to many.

She is preceded in death by her Grandparents- James Roberson, Frankie Edwards and Clarence Perry, Goldie Williamson; Great Grandmother Minnie Tann; Her Parents, Rev. James W., and Delores Mitchell; Brother, Donald (Duckie) and James (Jimmy) Mitchell; Sister Serena (Charles) Hargrove; grandson Meshach Sir-King Orton; Aunts, Evelyn Drake, Barbara Jean Hayes; Uncle, Mondell Hayes; Cousins, Carolyn Hayes, Betty Edwards, Barbara Caldwell, Armon Hayes, Darlene, and Don Lipsey

Lenora’s legacy will live on through her husband, Deacon Matthew Orton, Daughter-Wendy Orton, Sons-Elgin Orton, Saul (Johnetta) Orton, Phillip (Rogier) Orton. Stepmother- Allie Mitchell; Brother-Jerome (Marilyn) Mitchell; step brother Joshua (Nicole) Price; Grandchildren, Nevaeh, Alexandria, Londyn, Josaulyn, Saul Jr, Jordy, Phree, Journi, Jouray; spiritual son, Donald Gravely; special cousins- Beverly Calhoun, Deborah Wade, Shelia Wright, Crystal Hunter; special nieces Jequette (William) Simmons, Tamara (Damon) Smith; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Lenora the wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend will be greatly missed by many, but our hearts rejoice in knowing that the scriptures teach us from Revelation 14:13 “And I heard a voice from Heaven, saying unto me, “Write: ’Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from henceforth.’” “Yea,” saith the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, and their works do follow them.”. So, rest in Paradise Lenora Faye Orton, till we meet again

Condolence from Andrea (Andi Simon) Barrett on March 13th, 2022 9:29 pm

“Lennie” and I went through Fairwood ES, Roosevelt Junior High School, and graduated together from South High School. Throughout the years, I remember her smile, her “getting along well with everyone”, always making us laugh, and just being herself. She was unique and one of a kind. As I saw her years after High School, she was still the same. I was so saddened to see that she had passed, but I should be rejoicing because now she is safe in the Arms of Jesus. May the family be comforted in knowing that she is on a fast track to Heaven waiting for the rest of us to join her. Stay Encouraged.

Condolence from Jodelle Mixon on March 14th, 2022 4:31 pm

To Matt, Elgin, Phillip, Wendy and Saul, my deepest sympathy to you all in your loss of a beautiful and loving lady. b; Lennie and I were roommates when we both first left home and we’ve been friends and “sisters” every since. Our lives went in different directions as we grew older but our bond never ended because it is based on Love. I was so sad to hear that Lennie had passed but I know whose arms are wrapped around her and she’s no longer suffer*ing, she is at peace. I pray that God will give you all peace and comfort during this time of grief. Love always, Jodelle Mixon
