Deborah “Debbie” Marie Burton, daughter of Shirley Ann Moorman was born in Charleston, West Virginia on July 6, 1949. She went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 18, 2018, at St. Ann’s Hospital, at the age of 68. The oldest of 11 children, Deborah moved to Columbus, Ohio at an early age, where she was raised by her Uncle Preston and Aunt Frankie. She attended Columbus Public Schools and graduated from South High School. On February 3, 1968, she married James E. Burton and recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. Together they had three sons: James, Marlon, Kelly and raised their granddaughter Summer Okeke.

A devoted Wife, Mother, Sister, Grandmother, Aunt, Cousin, and Friend, she was the number one cheerleader for her children and grandchildren at their sporting events. She was often called first for prayer from anyone in need. Her faith in God never wavered. A faithful friend, neighbor, and great hostess. She was renowned for her cookies and pound cakes. She was an extraordinary woman.
Initially employed by F & R Lazarus, Debbie later drove a school bus for Columbus Public Schools. She moved on to be an administrative assistant at Comp Drugs, before retiring from Rhema Christian Center as an administrative assistant.

A faithful member and tireless worshipper, Debbie attended Travelers Rest Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. U. G. Campbell. She later joined Rhema Christian Center where she was a part of the Praise and Worship Team, served on the Women’s Ministry and graduated from the Extraordinary Women’s class. She was also a member of the S.A.G.I.C. ministry.

She was preceded in death by her mother Shirley Ann Moorman, brothers Thomas “Tommy” Moorman, Randall Moorman and her sister Christine “Kissy” Wiggins.

She leaves to cherish her memory, husband James E. Burton, sons James N., Marlon (Rochelle), and Kelly (Shawn) all of Columbus, OH. Granddaughters Summer “Treasure” Okeke (Valentine) of Fairborn, OH, Kyla Curry-Jeter, Lynn-Marie, Logan, and Clarke Gilchrist. Grandsons Marlon Jr., Elijah, Jeremiah, and Christen and 3 great-grandchildren, all of Columbus, OH. Brothers Paul Moorman and George “Rusty” Wiggins of Columbus, OH. Phillip Moorman of Charleston, WV. Sisters Renee (Frank) Burton, Cheryl (Roger) Martin, Kay Wiggins, Gail (Eric) Dulaney, all of Columbus, OH. Special friends Dorothea Johnson, Theresa Burns, Joan Harris, and special cousin Gloria Patterson, along with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

Visitation 9:00am and Funeral 11:00am Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Rhema Christian Center, 2100 Agler Rd.

Interment at Eastlawn Cemetery.
