Delores Jean Bonner was a beautiful baby girl born as the second child and only daughter of Janie Mae Blackwell Bonner and Walter Scott Bonner (deceased), on June 6, 1944, in Cleveland, Ohio. It was “D-Day”, the day that marked the beginning of the end of WWII and victory for the allied troops, and the beginning of Delores’ victorious life.
She was raised in Cleveland, Ohio with her three brothers, Wallace, Milton, and Walter. Early on, she and her brothers were taught in the ways of the Lord. On August 20, 1989, she rededicated her life to Christ at the Church of Christ of Apostolic Faith in Columbus, Ohio.
She was an active, vibrant woman, who wanted to do many things, and dared to try. She graduated from John Adams High School in 1963 and went on to earn a certification in hospital food service from Jane Addams Vocational High School in 1965. With this certification, she was Food Service Supervisor for St. Luke Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio and then at Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. She was employed at Columbia Gas of Ohio from 1972 to 2009, where she performed various jobs including Senior Head Teller and Customer Service Representative.
On July 20, 1982, she gave birth to the joy of her life, Korey Carden Mickens. In 1989 she was diagnosed with lung cancer, but by the grace of God and a tenacious spirit, she was victorious over the disease, remaining cancer-free through the rest of her life.
She was instrumental in promoting cancer awareness by volunteering and supporting the American Cancer Society, African American Cancer Support Group, and other organizations.
In recent years, she faced another battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and other pulmonary problems, which ultimately claimed her life.
To meet her was to love her, as she gave to everyone she knew, from the very young to the very seasoned. She’ll be greatly missed, but lovingly remembered by many, many people.
Preceding her in death is her father, Walter Scott Bonner, and youngest brother, Walter “Babo” Bonner.
She is survived by her mother Jane Bonner, brothers, Wallace (Karline) and Sir Milton Bonner, son Korey (Katie) Mickens, grandson, Korey, Jr., uncle Henry Harvey, Sr., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and devoted friends.

Condolences for the family of “Delores Jean Bonner”

Condolence from Sarah Jones on November 30th, -0001 12:00 am

Dear Bonner Family,
I am so sorry for your loss, please accept my sincere condolences at this time. Something that I have found to be a great source of comfort are the thoughts expressed in the BIble at John 5:28,29 where we see that thereis going to be a resurrection of those who have fallen asleep in death. Also at Revelation 21:4 we see that God is going to eliminate all of the causes for why we deal with sorrow, pain and even death itself. It is my sincere hope that these thoughts bring your family comfort at this time. Once again I am so sorry for your loss.

Delores will always be remembered for her Love of Life especially in caring for others. She had a smile that was contagious even when you were not at your best; she could lift your Spirits. I know that my friend is at peace now and would want us all who knew and loved her to treasure her fondest memories forever in our hearts. My prayers go out to the joy of her life, son Korey, Korey Jr. and the rest of her family. RIH – Ms. Moe

God Took Another Angel Home
© Christina Wallace
You laid there in that hospital
bed, you tried so hard to hold on.

God was calling you home. He needed
another angel to help poor out the rain.

Tears have fallen, hearts where shattered,
but it was time for you to fly home.

Your loved ones came to say their last goodbyes, to tell you they loved you, and that you will be forever missed.

As your heart beat stopped, and your eyes slowly closed,
God took another angel home.

I will miss you forever, love always.

I always called Delores “Lolo” Bonner. I met her in the late 1970’s in Tempe Arizona. I stayed in contact with Lolo for years. Lolo was always planning and wanting to redecorate her condo, her energy and conversation kept me laughing. When I heard she had her final sunset, I was sadden by her passing. Lolo was a good friend, beautiful woman and she loved her son, she always mentioned Korey in conversation. Lolo, I muss you and love you. P.s I wrote about you in my book: HEY PUDDIN! Some Things Just Don’t Change
