Life Reflections of Devan Antwaun Willis

Devan loved three things for sure—his mother and brothers, his children and music! All his life he was looking after his mother and twin brothers. That’s why his grandma Diane nicknamed him “Grandpa”! With his sons, he made sure they participated in not only school activities but sports as well. When Tanya’s health failed, Devan kicked in to be right by her side, taking her to doctors’ appointments, emergency room visits and recently as her home health care assistant.

He attended Marion Franklin High School and Linden McKinley High School in Columbus, Ohio and Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. Devan also completed a certificate program.

He was a fierce competitor, never wanting to lose at anything. Christmas ugly sweater contest, Devan won. The 80’s party outfits, Devan came as Tupac and if you asked him, he won.

He also had a love for cooking, always sharing recipes and cooking tips with his Uncle Keith and if you asked either of them, both would say, “that they could cook the best”.

Devan accepted Christ at a very young age joining Mt. Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church and played drums for the church as well.

Devan was preceded in death by grandfather Roscoe V. Willis, Great Grandmother Doris Butler. A proud and loving father to his children, Jadan, Tevan, Martez, Deviion, Derrion, who will carry on Devan’s legacy. He also leaves behind his mother, Tanya D. Willis; father, Carl “Monty” Roddy (Christine); God-father, Stuart Strother; brothers, Rashawn Willis and Dashawn Willis; step-sisters, Latifah, Tiffiny, Azizah, Montiya; grandmother, Clara Stigger; uncle, Keith A. Willis, Sr. (Ericca) of St. Louis, MO; great aunt, Deloris Carter; great uncle, Ken Butler (Shirley) of Chicago, IL; great uncle, Andrew Butler (Cornelia) of Detroit, MI; cousins, Antoinette Walker, Natosha Willis, Brittany Davison, Keith A Willis, Jr., Keion A. To the family of Devan, I am truly sorry for your loss! Death is one of the most difficult situations we must face. In the very near future, death will be eliminated forever! (Isaiah 25:8) We have God’s promise at Revelation 21:4, “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore.” May you find comfort in God’s promises at this difficult time.

Condolence from Jennifer Ugarte on June 19th, 2018 11:28 am

I’m so sorry for your loss. I can only imagine how you must feel. I have found comfort in scriptures like Job 14:14,15 which remind me that God cares so deeply for us that he yearns for the day when he will bring us back to life on earth (John 5:28, 29). I hope that these words bring you comfort as well.

Condolence from TJ Cornett II on June 19th, 2018 3:45 pm

May the Strength of God’s Holy Spirit keep our minds in perfect peace during such a trying time.

Dev was full of Love and celebration even in some of the most stressful situations life could present. He believed in Psalms 30:5 and how sadness may last through the night, but joy and happiness will come in the morning.

One of our Devan’s favorite spiritual songs has these lyrics that he would sing all the time, “My soul has been anchored in the Lord!”

In Love with our Deepest Sympathy,
TJ Cornett II and Family.
