Doris J. Griffin, age 78 of Reynoldsburg Ohio, went to be with her Lord on July 9, 2021. Doris was born on November 30, 1942 in Opelika, Alabama to the late Willie C. and Nellie B. Reid.

 

Doris lovingly known as “Doll” by family and friends accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and united with the Union Grove Baptist Church of Opelika, Alabama. Later her family moved to Detroit , Michigan where they united with Apostle Paul Missionary Baptist Church. Doris graduated High School. After High School she met and later married James Alfonzo Johnson in October of 1960.  Doris had two girls from that union, Teresa Marie and Nelvia Denise.

 

She attended a trade school where she received a Certificate in Key Punch. She worked at Tollie International for many years as a Key Punch Operator. Later she would go on to be a volunteer at AARP where she was helpful in getting girls the help that they needed. Later in life she met and was United in marriage to Cornelius Henry Griffin.

 

Doris was a woman of Strong Faith, her two favorite quotes were “I Am In God’s Hands and “God Got The Last Say” before her feet would touch the floor she would always say “Lord I Stretch My Hands To Thee From No Other Help I Know”.

Doris was a very generous person, she always believed in helping others, her family was the light of her life.

 

Doris will be missed by every life she touched.

 

Doris was preceded in death by her Daughter, Teresa Johnson; Sister, Lois Sykes and Husband, Cornelius Griffin.

 

She leaves to cherish her memory, her Daughter, Nelvia Johnson; Grandson, Zachariah Martin; Sisters, Brenda Barnett and Marilyn Wilson; Nephews and Nieces Ricardo Reid and Carla Reid of Los Angeles, Kojuan Barnett of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Jasmine Barnett of Detroit Michigan, and Great-Niece Minyuan Barnett of Detroit, Michigan; Aunti Hattie Hall of Opelika, Alabama and Miracle Ryane of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, the family pet.

For those she leaves behind this is not “Good-by” but Farewell” we will see her again when we get “Home”.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Private Visitation 1:00 PM and Private Memorial Service 2:00 PM Thursday, July 22, 2021 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave. (one block east of Noe Bixby, turn North on Lonsdale Rd). Mask, Social Distancing and Tickets are required.
