She is walking towards us framed by the sun so I can’t see her well. As she walks into shadow, I can see her. She is stunning, elegant, dressed in creased trousers and a crisp powder blue blouse. She has a lovely face with warm brown eyes and a radiant smile topped off by a cap of softly graying curls. She says “Hello” and I catch the remnants of a southern drawl. This is how I will remember Doris Jackson. I will become well aquainted with her and her family over the years to come. I will come to know her quick smile and infectious laugh. Her kindness and generosity, never in short supply, made her a delightful neighbor. My deepest condolences to her children, grandchildren, and friends. She will be sorely missed.
