Dorothy Jane (Johnson) Dawkins known to her friends and family as Dottie. She was born in Columbus Ohio on September 29, 1932 to Lester Johnson and Elizabeth (Roberts) Johnson. She transition on Thursday February 20, 2020.

Dorothy was a graduate of East high school. Dorothy met and married James H. Dawkins October 4, 1950 and remained married until his death May 2, 1997. She was a retired employee of Columbus Public School system. After she retired she had a passion for traveling. She was always ready for the next cruise, bus trip or plane ride. She traveled to Germany, England Holland, France, Belgium, Hawaii, Alaska, She cruised the Caribbean, Jamaica, Aruba, Bahamas, Mexico and a host of many other places. She always had her suitcase packed. She loved her trips to Tunica Mississippi with Sharon Hamerick. She was always up for dining out and she loved MCL. Dottie also enjoyed family gatherings, family reunions, shopping and bingo. Being a mother was her greatest attribute. She loved her family. She missed her sisters dearly. Dottie lived a very full and blessed life.

Dorothy was a social butterfly. She always brought laughter and fun to every event. She knew no strangers and she left a lasting impression on all those she met. She was out going bubbly everywhere she went. While visiting Germany she even ran into a friend. Dottie was known for her fast cars, at 80 years old she was driving a mustang and they called her mustang Dottie. Dottie also loved church. She loved Triumphant Christian Center; she served at Steward Memorial and had great memories there. We will all cherish the memories, when we think about Dottie a great big smile will come to your face because I sure you will have a story that will cause and outburst of laughter. She will be sorely missed.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Lester and Elizabeth Johnson; Husband James H. Dawkins Sr.; Granddaughter Dionna Edwards; Sisters Betty Ivory, Wilma Booker and Lorraine Kelly; Son David Dawkins; Grandson Bret Dillard.

She is survived by Sons James H. Dawkins Jr., Janice (Marvin) Harris, Linda Dawkins, Richard (Deborah) Dawkins, Bradley Dawkins, Lori (Melvin) Harrison, and Thomas Tuff. She has 26 grandchildren, 41 great grand children. A host of cousins, nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Visitation 10:00 AM and Funeral Service 11:00 AM Friday, February 28, 2020 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave.

Interment at Glen Rest.
