Dorothy Jean Watkins was born in Bay Spring, Mississippi on January 19, 1942 to Wren Tatum and Geniveia Page-Tatum.
Dorothy received her high school diploma from Crane Tech High School in Chicago, Illinois. After graduating from high school, she relocated to Columbus, Ohio. Dorothy was gainfully employed at The Ohio State Office Tower for 7 years as an Environmental Specialist. Her love for doing hair influenced her to pursue her cosmetology license. She continued doing hair for 30 years.

Dorothy will be remembered as a strong black woman who was authentic in everything that she did. Dorothy had a bubbly personality. One of her favorite pastimes were socializing with her family and friends. When she was present, the room was filled with love and laughter. Some of her hobbies included: cooking, dancing, shopping and getting her hair and nails done. Her style and poise will be missed.

Blessed with 79 years of life, Dorothy Jean Watkins departed this earthly life on September 2, 2021.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Wren and Genivevia Tatum; brother, W.T. Tatum; sister, Lula Tatum; stepson, Chris Hunter; honorable son, Timothy Wagner; best friend, Shirley Thompson and other close relatives.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories, son, Jimmie (Tamika) Tatum; daughters, Crystal and Tammie Watkins all of Columbus, Ohio; brothers, Jessie (Betty) Tatum, Jerry (Mary) Tatum, Tommy Tatum all of Columbus, Ohio, and Rickey Tatum of Atlanta, Georgia; stepchildren, Mark Hunter, Debbie (Richard) Moore of Columbus, Ohio, and Sandy Hunter of Las Vegas, NV; special niece, Nickole Tatum; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, family, and friends.

Private Visitation 10:00 AM and Private Funeral Service 11:00 AM Friday, September 10, 2021 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE NORTH 2500 Cleveland Ave. Masks and Social Distancing are required. Interment at Evergreen Burial Park.
