Dwayne Robert Lopes Sr was born on June 8, 1970 in Danville Virginia to Barbara Ann (Walton) Lopes and Matthew Roberts Lopes. Elder Dwayne Lopes is not only an ordained minister who was the former host of local, award winning Christian television program “The Light of the World, “Armor Men of God”, and Gospel Nation Broadcasting ministry. In addition, he also graduated Summa Cum Laude earning his Bachelor’s degree in Pastoral Leadership Ministry from Ohio Christian University in Circleville, Ohio. Dwayne was currently pursing his Master’s degree in Practical Theology, and had just two more weeks to obtain his degree. Dwayne was an author writing three books which includes, “My Father’s Business”, “Rhyme Time”, and “Once Upon A Rhyme In H-Town” two books which characterized each of his children. His children is his legacy.
Dwayne was a man who loved God, life and people. He was a servant leader, elder, husband, father of seven children, friend, and counselor. He was a family man and loved his family. His family consist of 3 sons and 4 daughters and he was a kid at heart. He never met a stranger and was clearly an extreme extrovert having various illustrations. He was kind, and a warrior but always illustrated the truth. Dwayne was the youngest in his family and was born with a heart condition called Marfans Syndrome which affects the heart, eyes, blood vessels, and bones. Everyday was a battle for him, seeing he could only see out of one eye, and had pain daily, however, he was an overcomer. Dwayne was an avid reader, and a Theologian preacher and was very knowledgeable in the scriptures. He was often referred to as the Walking Bible.
Dwayne was a member of Higher Ground Always Abounding Assemblies for 10 years, and was ordained by Bishop Sherman Watkins. He also used his gifts to collaborate with various churches in the Central Ohio community to serve as a laborer to help those in leadership and others. He served 14 years at First Church of God under the leadership of Bishop Timothy J. Clarke as he continued his spiritual growth. He commenced a prison ministry at First Church of God, and worked as a volunteer driver transporting senior citizens to Meals on Wheels for lunch at First Church for over two years. He also served as a floor tech to keep First Church floors shining and volunteered at various food pantries.
On Saturday, March 26, 2022, after a long battle with cardiac issues, Dwayne gained his wings. He was proceeded in death by his mother Barbara Ann Lopes, Father Matthew Lopes, and son Michael Dawson.
