Erma Beatrice Ferrell Glass Ray “Ms Bea” was called home on January 2, 2023. She was
born on February 2, 1945, South Boston, VA. to Sarah Frances and Jack Johnson Ferrell.
Erma was the fifth child of eight children. Linn Bennie Ferrell (d), Thelma Shannie White
(d), Mary Frances Taylor (d), Rosa Lucille Edmunds (d), Ruth Ferrell (d), Bobby Ferrell (d),
and Percy (Gloria) Ferrell.

Erma moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1959, where she graduated from North High School in
1964. She later decided to pursue a career in nursing and attended 4 years at the Mount
Carmel College of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse at Riverside Hospital.
She later decided to retire from nursing and pursue other interest and went on to work at
the Neil House Hotel, where she started as a bus girl, and quickly moved up to Executive
Assistant until the hotel was demolished in 1980.

Erma “Ms Bea” later went on to work at Regency Manor, and the Motorist building until
her retirement in 2015 where she received numerous recognition awards and employee of
the month.

She was a member of St. John’s Baptist Church and was well active and loved in her
community. She was the mother of the neighborhood, known as “Ms Bea” or “Sister Ray”.
And those of you who truly knew her, you can agree that she loved to play the lottery and
scratch off tickets and won as a contestant on Cash Explosion game show in 1997.

Erma was preceded in death by her husband Paul S Ray Sr., Stepchildren – Paula & Allen
Lewis, Paul & Willa Ray Jr., Betty & Fred Malone, son-in-law Darryl McGhee, grandchildren
– Elisha Paul Glass Jr., and Jeannette Green, special acknowledgement Mittie Ray, and
William Champ.

Erma “Ms Bea” leaves to cherish her memories Paul (JoAnn) Glass Jr., Samantha (David)
Browning Jr., stepchildren – Rosa (Ralph) Woods, Jolene McGhee, Charles (Juanita) Ray,
adopted – Shamika Brown. 20 grandchildren with a special recognition to her
granddaughter Brittany Glass, and a host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Special Friends, Ms. Sally Farmer, Ms. Eula Johnson, Ms. Mary Davis, Ms. Kimberly Tynch,
Ms. Evalena Helms, Sam & Don (4th street carry-out).

Visitation 5:00 PM and Funeral Service 6:00 PM Saturday, January 14, 2023 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave. (one block east of Noe Bixby, turn North on Lonsdale Rd).
