Eugene Jordan (“EJ”) Carter was born the fourth child of James E. and Mildred L. (Jackson) Carter on December 2, 1957 in Columbus, Ohio. He was educated in Columbus Schools and graduated from Central High School in 1975.

EJ was baptized at Love Zion Baptist Church in his youth. He was active in Sunday School and played on the intramural basketball team and helped bring home a few trophies. He continued playing ball at the J. Ashburn Recreation Center into his twenties.

He worked for several local companies until he decided to follow his passion for cooking. EJ worked as a sous chef caterer for CCAD and Mitchell’s Restaurant’s and catering until he retired.

EJ married Carolyn Y. Terrell on December 31, 1985 and gained a daughter, Charina Terrell. To this union was born three more children. He was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed interacting with the grandchildren. His extended family was very important to him.

EJ also was an avid sports fan. There could be no distractions during a Buckeye game, nor an NBA or NFL game he was following.

EJ also pursued his life-long skills as an amateur artist and painter and created gifts for many family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Eugene is predeceased by his daughter, Charina Terrell. He leaves to cherish his memory, wife, Carolyn Y. Carter; daughter, Vanessa (Marvin Sr.) Turner; sons, Xavier L. Robinson, Sr., Michael Anderson, Jordan (Evan) Carter, and Terrell (Tessa Workman) Carter; sisters, Janice L. Dabney, and Janet L. Carter; brothers, James E. (Ruthie) Carter ll, William C. (Anita) Carter, and Timothy A. Carter; seventeen grandchildren, and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Visitation 11:00am and Funeral 12:00pm Monday, July 29, 2019 at MARLAN GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave.

Interment at Eastlawn Cemetery.
